Do you have a promo code for the Geno 2.0 one? If so, are you willing to share? I honestly don't know if any are better than the others, but a family member was interested in the National Geographic one.

That's pretty cool. Any clue who the culprit is? Do you have known relatives from Alaska/Canada? Any idea how many generations back you would you have to go to be watered down to 0.8% now?

I've gotten about ten emails from National Geographic in the past few weeks. I've bought a bunch of books from them in the past, so I'm on their list.

I didn't notice a promo code, but the sale ends on 12/3/2017. I'm happy to share if there is a promo code. Let me check the email.

Is there one that pinpoints certain areas that your relatives came from? Not just 80% Italian 20% British, etc.

Total waste of money. Seriously. Nothing about this stuff will change your life or even be worth knowing.

Who cares if 24% of your DNA is country x or y or whatever - you're an American. That's as good as it gets.

If we're going to start eliminating everything from life that's a waste of money, things are going to get pretty boring. No more boats, fine dining, Tiger football, tittie bars, world travel, etc. All complete wastes of money, but interesting and fun.

I'm sure it won't change my life. I don't expect to find out I'm Irish royalty, although my grandmother insisted we were descended from Crazy Hugh and his bloody hand. (Look it up. It might be fun for you.)

Whether or not something is "worth knowing" is a rather subjective matter. I have a curious nature and am interested, at least initially, in almost anything. Subsequently, I'm familiar with a wide array of people, places and things. All of them interesting to me.

Nobody, including myself, really cares what my DNA is composed of. It would be interesting to discover something unexpected in my background, but nobody would actually care. I'm not a blue blood or white supremacist, so a homeboy in the woodpile isn't going to cause me any embarrassment.

And, to close...
Lighten up, Francis.

I'm not sure. The only ones I've seen have it broken down into regions, and some have subsets of the regions.

They're customizing chem-trails to be more effective in different regions via these "DNA test kits".

My mother is Panamanian. The conquistadors came over on ships full of men, and banged all the local indian girls. I was 3% Central American, so i figure that is all remnants of some ancestral native. Also got some Sephardic jew, ashkenazi jew, and even some west african, with a larger percentage Iberian and Italian. It's a melting pot down there.

Still was 79% Northern european, with 50% scandinavian. So i can pass.

Dorothy:

No promo code necessary. Go to shop.nationalgeographic dot com. There's a list of categories on the home page and one is "DNA Ancestry Kits"
There's a bunch of detail about what the Geno 2.0 kit includes and how long test results will take (6-12 weeks). Click "buy now" and the discounted price of $69.95 comes up. The email I got today says the price is good until 11:59pm PST on Dec. 3rd.

A little Hessianian thrown in there for good measure.

A perfect example of Occam's Razor! It's a simple and obvious explanation.

My son and I did the 23 and me test

It's crazy how much genetic variation there can be between people, even father and son!

Wow! After reading the first part of your post, the 79% Northern European result is the part that sounds strange. You're definitely a son of a son of a son (etc.) of a sailor.

I'm curious about this myself. I'm trying to rope my siblings into doing it. Four of us look quite alike and similar to my mom's side of the family. But our oldest brother doesn't look like any of the rest of us. He looks a lot like my father, but not as tall. (He definitely belongs to my parents, just a different genetic result.)

Funny you mention not looking alike, my son has always been very tan but apparently my great great great grandmother was Native American so I guess it must be a recessive gene!

My brother is the only one of five siblings with black hair. The rest of us are blond or dirty blond/brownish. We all have blue or green eyes, except for him. His are kind of dark gray. He tans really well. These rest of us, not as well. One sister, not at ALL. Her sons are practically fricking albinos.

My dad had black hair and very similar features to my older brother. We have some old pics of my dad when he was stationed on Guam and he's got the best tan of his life, but he was actually kind of a fair skinned guy.

I'm very curious to see what, if any, DNA variation there is between us. It seems like we should be very similar, but I don't really know how it works. I guess I should have paid better attention in biology class.
