Great article from WaPo that says why hookups are so popular is b.c there are more college educated females than college educated males.

Choice quotes:
quote:

As I argue in “DATE-ONOMICS: How Dating Became a Lopsided Numbers Game,” the college and post-college hookup culture is a byproduct, not of Tinder or Facebook (another target of modern scolds), but of shifting demographics among the college-educated. Much as the death toll of WWI caused a shortage of marriageable men in the 1920s, today’s widening gender gap in college enrollment has created unequal numbers in the post-college dating pool.

In 2012, 34 percent more women than men graduated from American colleges, and the U.S. Department of Education expects this gap to reach 47 percent by 2023. The imbalance has spilled over into the post-college dating scene. According to data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, there are now 5.5 million college-educated women in the United States between the ages of 22 and 29 vs. 4.1 million such men. In other words, the dating pool for straight, millennial, college graduates has four women for every three men. No wonder some men are in no rush to settle down and more women are giving up on what used to be called “playing hard to get.”

based on my friend base this seems to be validated. All of the single men I know (mostly Gen X) have loads of woman that are dying to hookup or be in a relationship. Some of them are total losers (from a woman's perspective) but they have a line of woman dying to get involved with them. And my wife's female friends all seem to have problems finding someone to date.

Discuss.

it's a lot like black females have difficulty finding black males who don't have criminal records, STDs, and who have solid jobs

i read an article years ago about boyfriend sharing in the black community due to the scarcity of good boyfriend material

This is why men don't need to tolerate bs relationships.

Your wife wants divorce? Good, GTFO.

There are tons of dateable women in the 30-50 age group.

well the only problem with that is they take half of your stuff. But yeah, I know a female that is not happy with her husband. But won't leave him for this exact reason. They have two children, and despite the fact that she supports him, does all the housework/childcare/cooking/cleaning, she refuses to leave him. Why? She is like where am I going to find a mate being 41, slightly overweight with two young children?

I used to think the exact same thing. But then my wife explained why I was incorrect.

Sounds like she does a lot just to justify her being fat. Still no excuse.

She isn't that overweight. IWHI. But she could stand to lose 10-15lbs, and she knows it. Two children in 18 months will do that.

I guess the war on drugs gave them STD and failed to train them for jobs too right? Maybe, poor decisions put them in jail.

The problem that all of the girls I know have, is that they are too picky. I mean, you're 30 years old and always complaining about not meeting any good guys. The guys are there, but the girls are too picky (at least the ones I know).

A lot of them go home and cry about being un-datable also. Some of them get depressed and have to get on meds. I just find it funny that they put themselves in the situation, refuse to remedy it, and then cry about what is going on.

I also think there are vast differences based on geography. I don't know many girls that will beg to be with guys.

In the meantime, I'll just pity bang them when they get drunk and lonely....until an extremely exceptional chick comes along. Now those are few and far between

Sometimes it's really hard to read an article like this and rationalize why I am in a monogamous relationship in my mid-20s. I have no intention of starting a family or getting married within the next several years, and I am intending to return to school.

I can't help but think of a quote from Daniel Tosh during his second stand-up special:

quote:

Girlfriend: Like, you really wanna hook up with some skank?

Tosh: Whoa, whoa...it's not you versus skank, honey. It's you versus EVERY skank.
