My father fought under Patton. Patton was reprimanded for those words. My father loudly echoed Patton's words and voiced full support for the idea to those around him.

My grandfather fought under Patton too. He told me a dozen times during his life had Ike not stopped them they would have flanked the Germans and been east of Bradley and Montgomery‘s army and it would have been complete annihilation of the Germans in a turkey shoot. Instead we let them withdrawal back east to resupply only to attack us again in the dead of winter. The Battle Of The Bulge could have been prevented and countless lives could have been saved. My grandfather also said Patton wanted take Berlin and the other 2-3 major cities and beat the Russians there months in advance. Stalin was as evil or more evil than Hitler. The German people wanted no part of them ruling over them and would have helped kick their arse back to Russia. Churchill did not trust Stalin. FDR sort of liked Stalin. Patton was right we should have kicked Russia's arse because he knew damn well we would be screwing around with them for the next 75 years. For what it’s worth my grandfather also said after witnessing the atrocities the Russians inflicted on the woman of Germany the guys he served with would have gladly kept pressing east turning their guns off of Germans and firing down upon the Russians.

In very limited supply. The time to make more was fairly long. Not sure how soon they would have come into play.

I'm not 100% certain but I believe we had 3 after the last bombing in Japan.

But Russia didn't know that. Drop two in the right places and hold one in reserve while the US is building more as quickly as possible. Whatever we had, we were the only power in the world with the atomic bomb and we could have destroyed everything in Russia given enough time. Probably the only power in world history with that kind of situation.

But the world was tired of war, can't blame them.

Same with MacArthur and China. Listening to those two would have led to a much better world now.

The Brits had their own nuclear program and had a bomb in the pipeline. If we had had to use more than three, the fourth would have been British, most likely dropped by a Lancaster.

This whole topic made me think of a book that came out called Bloodlands.

It’s a fairly large book but it’s about Ukraine and other areas wedged in between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union and how they were treated like shite by both sides.

If this was the goal, the Allies objectively lost. UK, France, Germany and US won't be western for much longer.

supposedly in 1941 many Ukrainians at first greeted the Nazis as rescuers rather than invaders

No he really wasn’t wrong about it. The Russians were pretty well expressed by the time they attacked Berlin. After the Germans surrendered we would have not only been able to use what was left of the Wehrmacht supplied by us but we would have had the port of Antwerp to resupply instead of coming from the beachhead. It needed major repairs but could have been done quickly. They had tons of infantry, tanks and artillery as did we but even though they had a capable single engine plane Air Force, we had better planes and most importantly better trained pilots and more of them. The one major difference that would have made it an easy victory though was our fleet of heavy bombers which they did not have. By the end of the war we could routinely put together missions with 1200 bombers completely protected the entire way with P-51’s that would lay waste to whatever was in their path.

If not for Hitler's desire to eliminate the Slavs he would have had the opportunity to add a whole lot of soldiers to his side of the battle.
