Something tells me there is not going to be a huge rush of gay men abstaining from gay sex for a year so they can give blood. But if they do, then they can give blood but I can't, simply because I was in Great Britain for 3 mos in the mid-80s? Weird world.

Foolishness. By now they ought to have developed a blood test to screen everybody's blood, not just that of gay men. Your 80-year old grandma could be a carrier.
