Yep, the status quo will never, ever change again.

The end of history is officially here.

This makes absolutely no sense in response to my comment.

Its baffling.

Democracy.

You do realize that the majority of Americans support gay marriage, right?

John Adams coined the term "Tyranny of the Majority."

And, as of today, it's been replaced with "Tyranny of the Five".

The majority of people who opposed gay marriage, their votes do not matter any more.

That's the real issue.

Good.

A majority should not be able to deny the rights to a minority.

Again, this has happened several times in our history when the majority want something that is unconstitutional and flat out wrong.

Also, answer my earlier question. What does the legalization of gay marriage do to you? How does it negatively affect you?

Oh and just found this:

quote:

A February–March 2015 Wall Street Journal poll found that 59% of Americans favor same-sex marriage.

A January–February 2015 Human Rights Campaign poll found that 60% of Americans favor same-sex marriage, while 37% oppose. The same poll also found that 46% of respondents say they know a same-sex couple who have gotten married.

A February 12–15, 2015 CNN/ORC poll found that 63% of Americans believe same-sex marriage is a constitutional right, while 36% oppose.

So the majority actually favored it AND its the right thing to do under direction from the Constitution.

Opinion polls are not voting booths.

The majority have voted against gay marriage. Out of 85 million votes cast in 39 elections in 35 states, over 51 million of them were to keep marriage between a man and a woman.

The Supreme Court has declared today that their votes are irrelevant.

That's the issue.

Like the abortion ruling, it's going to drive a bigger wedge deep into the country, and divide it even more.

So the majority does want it. SCOTUS verdict says the Constitution defends it.

We don't live in a straight up democracy. The U.S. is a federal republic, with an extremely large and complex system government with checks and balances that's evolved over two and a half centuries to meet the needs and wants of citizens on both sides of the political spectrum. There are loads of instances where people's votes don't "count." But that'd probably be too complex and nuanced for you to understand, so let me make a blunt and over the top analogy, seems like something you'd respond to.

Let's say 5 states passed laws saying murder was legal, should the federal government let that stand?

Our President isn't even elected by popular vote. Its electoral college, or Al Gore would've won.

That's exactly what the supposed gay marriage-supporting majority are doing.

they are denying you a right to do what exactly?

you still don't have to "accept" gay marriage

just the state has to accept it as a legal marriage

you are saying that they are denying you the freedom to deny them freedom?

What rights have they denied anyone?

They had their rights defended. It won't affect anyone in a negative way.

curious to see if the Feds have to send troops down here to force the Clerks of Court to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples.
