the vast amount of unintentional hilarity on this site is the absolute best thing about it.

Apparently we have a massive amount of 130+ IQs on this website. The sheer amount of self-proclaimed near geniuses is alarming. Totally skews the bell curve.

My remark about IQ wasnt a defense to "character assassination" it was intended to be a response to..

Do you care to be more specific?

quote:

It's always weird to say you are right because of your high IQ

Again, I wasnt insinuating I was right about anything based on IQ, I was very obviously responding to multiple attacks on my intelligence irrespective of the arguments I presented. He never responded to my arguments specifically. If he did we could have had an informed debate about it as I did with other posters.

We even could have slammed emoticon beer mugs together in celebration of spirited debate. Instead he choose the low road.

high IQ doesn't preclude you from being wrong in any particular instance.

Absolutely. Im always open to being educated but I have to believe that the person doing the educating is sincere in his intentions and isnt grandstanding before a virtual-audience, as it were.

I certainly dont know everything. Thats a journey, not a destination. IQ is simply a measure of potential. Not even a good one but its the only measure I have.

quote:

Thus to suggest that you are right because you are in a profession associated

Im a lowly carpenter by trade with a GED from NOLA, bro. I certainly dont pretend that Im superior to anyone for any reason, let alone by profession.

I just have trouble understanding why, if Im the way you and the other portray, that I can still manage to have reasoned discussions with other members?

In addition, no one has yet to consider the possibility that Im a massive troll.

I do like playing the long con.

The OT resides on the far right of every Bell curve, whether you're measuring IQ, height, annual income or most anything else.

As far as IQ goes, something like 95% of the US population falls within +/- 30 points of 100. I think around 70% fall within +/- 10 points of 100. "Average" IQ (I believe) is considered to be between 90 and 110. "Genius" level IQ (again ... I believe) starts around 145 or 150 and represents a VERY small percentage of the population, something like 0.1 or 0.2%.

To qualify for Mensa you need to score in the top 2%, which is around 135ish, if I remember correctly.

There are undoubtedly some very smart people on the OT. There are also some who reside on Forrest Gump's side of the curve. The reality is that a high IQ score doesn't automatically make you an all knowing fount of wisdom. Education, work and life experiences are a much greater contributors to general knowledge. I think having a higher IQ, in general, will allow you to consume and retain more information. What happens with that information is an entirely different issue.

Again, if I call you stupid, and you reply that you can't be stupid because your IQ is 138, that does nothing to satisfy whether you are stupid or smart. I could claim that I have a 150 IQ. That claim by itself doesn't prove anything, nor is it a sufficient defense if someone claims I'm stupid. It's among the most infantile responses to ad hominem attacks. It amounts to one person saying you are stupid, and you negating that and replying "No, I'm smart."

Do you care to be more specific?

I don't feel like going back and rereading this thread, but I certainly wasn't convinced by any of your claims.

I've been fairly consistent on remarking on the use of your supposed IQ, and I've mocked you because of it. That's all I've done. I've never suggested you couldn't have a reasonable discussion with someone. I don't care one way or another. Again, I've enjoyed the militant commitment to being as obtuse as a human can possibly be. I only responded because I always respond when people claim a high IQ, when juxtaposed with rather poor verbal and communicative skills. It's fairly entertaining, as far as this board goes.

I'm very skeptical. Certainly I've seen no indication of that in 13 years here, nor any indication that the population subset of this forum would or could right-skew the distribution curve.

Just your wording of "supposed" IQ shows disdain which would tend to indicate that you do, in fact, personally hold the IQ measure in high regard otherwise you wouldnt be so disdainful of my claim but instead would do what someone does when they dont value something. They dismiss it. Ignore it. Leave it alone.

But alas. You cant. It irks the frick out of you. You even state that it triggers you enough to remark on it in every thread you see it brought up.

I'm disdainful because you write and have the reasoning ability of an infant. It's generally hilarious when people retreat to the r/iamverysmart IQ arguments.

My IQ is in the neighborhood of 345, btw.

Prolly would been more but I showed up to take the test after a night of partying and wasn’t very sharp.

Im not seeing it. Im also sensing tension in your writing. The very fact that you keep coming back to this only serves to bolster my position of you being severely stressed by the very existence of my presence in this thread.

I dont want to contribute to your dissatisfaction and mental anguish so Ill move on to another.

I'll have you know that my IQ is equivalent to my weight. I'm 400 pounds, and many psychologists have told me my IQ is 400, which is much higher than even William Sidis!

What I find odd is why would one mention an IQ of 138 which statistically makes them a moron on the OT.
