The max is 40. You think some young 20 something is going to take 25? To someone that age 25 years ends their life. He's going to trial if the offer is 25. Any priors?

Serving 18 years (with God knows what further reductions will occur in the next two decades) is not the end of his life. Life without parole, probation or suspension of sentence is the end of his life, though, and that's what happens at trial.

25-30 is not the end of his life. End of his prime, sure, but he can still have a life after 50 years old.
Question is, how bad will prison be for someone that did what he did? When you're inside, you quality of life really depends on your crime, especially in the first couple of years.
For all those black men in prison, he's right behind child molesters in their eyes I'm sure.

you must have been a prosecutor. I started as one as well. We will have to agree to disagree. 25 isn't going to happen IMO.

Look, it's your opinion, that's fine.
Im giving you mine based on my understanding of the building and knowing a significant amount about the case. Though, like I said, the strength of the case is irrelevant at this point.
It's simple: if Cardell Hayes got 25 for doing what he did, he has zero shot at getting less than 30 for this, unless, like I said, he wraps it early. The racial difference will be in the back of the minds of those making the decisions.
The suggestion of 5 or 10 is laughable. The DA would take it to trial and lose before that occurred, no matter how weak the case is. And fwiw, Ward has almost no shot at trial.
I never suggested 5 or 10. I said your statement claiming there isn't a judge in the building that would give him less than 20 simply isn't true without knowing the facts of the case, which apparently you do since you edited the post above changing your initial response of claiming to know "almost everything" about the case to claiming to know a "significant amount" about the case.
And Cardell Hayes went to trial and was convicted of manslaughter, leaving the sentencing up to the judge. If the facts of this case are a certain way, it isn't out of the realm of possibility for an agreed upon sentence of less than 20 given the kid's lack of criminal history, though the family would likely have to be ok with it since that is how the DA operates. IF an agreed upon sentence of less than 20 years is reached between the DAs office and the defense, there are plenty of judges in the building that would sign off on it.
I'm not saying that's going to happen, but acting like 35 is a done deal at this point is a premature.

Know whats scary about this disagreement?
He's going to listen to his lawyer's advice and I'm sure they all have different opinions like you two.

Yeah...have you heard/read their words?
They want blood, and rightfully so.

I honestly agree, but not in the same way you do. I can't see the DA agreeing to a number that low.

Guys real prison isn’t like movie prison
He will get 3 meals a day, watch TV, go outside and play basketball and workout with his friends, get to play cards and dominoes, smoke cigarettes...it really isn’t all that bad when you think about it.

I'm telling you that, even ignoring the family, Leon Cannizzaro would not accept 5 or 10.
Not. A. Shot.

Not saying the DA will offer 5 or 10. You are speaking premature by saying 25-35 is as low as the DA will go. And if the DA agrees to 20 or 18 or 15, plenty of judges would agree to it.

Can the family be paid to agree to a light sentence?
