and this is a bad look for him

Well no shite.

I meant at first we thought it "had to be" some kind of mutual disagreement and the old man had a big part in it.

The witness statements look REALLY bad. Seems he was pissed off about his girlfriend and took it out on an old man on the street for no reason.

ETA:

And my friends who are really close to Garrett who are great people (several well-known posters) all say he is a great guy, so it made it really hard to believe until all the facts came out. Pretty damn shocking.

I dont think that is legally possible is it?

The max is 40 years. If he has prior incidents that the state can prove (I.e. bar fights), they may get him for upward of 20. I think he gets ~10 and with good time is out in 5

I think there will be a heavy dose of politics in this one considering the current political environment in our country and New Orleans.

That isn't good for him. White, preppy kid beats a weak, old black man to death for no reason? That is CNN shite if he gets off easy.

Garrett's gonna get it up his arse

I don't know how else to say this

"Posters most people would recognize on here" was a little longer.

Seems odd this guy would just go up to a 60 yr. old black man who was "just minding his own business" and pummel him to death.

Ward was getting over the line physical/violent with his girlfriend outside a bar, the old black man tried to intervene and he was beat to death.

This kid is a pure frick up.

Bro, he beat a homeless man to death.

He kicked him repeatedly while the man died in his own puddle of blood.

This was no accident.

I am not saying it is right. I just would be willing to bet he won't do nearly what everyone in here thinks.

ETA: To me, the chick that killed someone on the Causeway should get the max for her manslaughter. They both should be in jail for a long time to me. Neither is an accident.

This is just not true.

Honestly, it would make more sense, but its just not true according to witnesses.

Well, he wasn't at all before this. Had a good job, good education, and no criminal history. That's what is crazy about it.

Not necessarily. I've seen guys with incredible criminal histories that the DA wants badly get 20 on man where the case could have gone either way.

Without seeing all of the evidence it is premature to say he will likely get 35 years.

No, it isn't. There isn't a judge in the building who would give him 20.

So he wasnt "minding his own business" then?

I am not saying that isnt a valiant thing to do, but either he was intervening for the girl, or he was minding his own business

Both cant be true

It seems the "sticking up for the girl" rumor from the other thread was just that, a rumor

You would know actually.

What do you think he ends up getting? Do think they'll let him plea to manslaughter? If so, predict his sentence...

That simply isn't true and is impossible to know without being made aware of the facts of the case.
