Stick your finger in it while it's turned on and try to free the blade.

That will guarantee it starts working.

hardest thing about changing out a garbage disposal is holding the new unit up and securing it to the flange of the sink

You can position your body so that the unit sits on top of your knee to hold it up while making the connection.

If it's making the humming noise, then the red button isn't necessary yet. However, it will be if you run it while it is stuck for very long.

Did it spin pretty freely when you used an allen key to turn it at the bottom? If not, keep spinning that joker while you run water into the sink.

Buy a new one if it doesn't start working.

Taken an Allen wrench ( is that even how you spell it?) and put it in the hole at the bottom. Turn it a few times until it jiggles freely back and forth. Last place I worked I had to fix disposals bc the maintenance guy refused to try my method, and his method did not work

Likely something lodged between the wall and the wheel. Look inside with a flashlight to see if you can find it. If not drop the thing and you will be able to find and remove it easily.

If there is nothing inside then go get a new one. Pretty easy to install even if you are slightly handy. Use YouTube to help you.

Mine came from Lowes. It has a red reset button like others have mentioned. Mine also has a tool attached to the side that looks like a weird wrench. It allows me to manually move the "teeth" backwards. I had to use it once when I replaced a light fixture and unknowingly dropped a sheet metal screw into the disposer. When we ran it the screw got stuck. The tool allowed me to unlock it.

Works fine now.

This thread motivated me to replace my disposal. Pretty easy job and my new one is quiet as a mouse.

Either everybody in this thread is retarded or I'm the only one here that has a spot on the bottom of the disposal that an Allen wrench fits into. Stick it in, turn it back forth a few times, and presto!

No just you and your lack of reading comprehension. Horse girl a couple posts above mentioned it and others were providing additional troubleshooting.
