Garages

Why the hell don’t more people park in their garages? I lived in a nice neighborhood and am amazed at the amount of people that park both cars in the driveway when they have a perfectly fine garage with stuff in it. I can understand one car, but both just kind of surprises me. A garage or carport is a pretty convenient thing to have in LA.

Most people treat their garages as storage buildings. My parents have a huge two car garage and it's stuffed with crap they never use, and despite my pleas for them to get rid of the junk so they can park in it again they never do.

Because my boat is in the way.

I assume your parents are empty nesters making it more surprising.

My truck would fit in the garage with like 4” to spare on the front and back sides. Wasn’t worth trying to shoehorn in just to park.

This was actually one of the reasons we got my wife a regular expedition vs the Max. I measured both and the max would have been the same.
Lots of garages aren’t build for trucks or Suburbans.

2 reasons: truck won't fit through the door opening and collector car is in the garage.

I passed someone’s yesterday that shocked me by how full it was.
We have a “throw 10 things away every day” rule we try to follow in my house. I hate stuff.

This is part of it. My car with hitch or foldable bike rack won’t fit in a new build (not my design) so sometimes I park outside vs taking them off.

I have kids and unfortunately their toys and junk fills up my side of the garage.

I beg them to spend 30 minutes cleaning up one section of their house per day - don't have to do the whole room in a day, just one small section. Eventually it'll get completely cleaned out over time.

My golf cart and motorcycle are in the garage.

Most “2 car garages” won’t easily fit 2 cars with ease of opening car doors. Kids will bang door into other car and not much room to walk around to get in cars. Unless you build a new home and take that into consideration as u build and expand the size a 2 car garage is basically a user friendly one car garage. Hell when I built I made the attached garage 4 feet wider and deeper and still only park the wife’s car inside and all the kids bikes, scooters, power wheels, etc take up the extra space.

I can only assume you are referring to neighborhoods where you aren’t allowed to have a separate building in your yard.
People need to have some kind of space to use as a shed or workshop. I don’t live in one of those neighborhoods. Not having a real shed/shop whatever you want to call it is deal breaker for me. Plus I can fart in my yard without the neighbors hearing it.
