Think about it, in 1990 a '57 Chevy was collectible. 30 years after this Mustang was born, it isnt "collectible"

I just don't see the fox body Mustang getting more collectible than it is now. It is a cool novelty collectible, something people will have if it reminds them of their HS days.

It's odd, what becomes classic.
Like the volvos from the early 80's coming back into demand. Anything Datsun, e36 Bmw, e38 bmw, of course the Grand National.

The nineties we see impalas holding value.

Anything Porsche is in an upward curve. Even the smaller stuff, 912, 914, 928 etc. 911 and any exotic is a no brainer.
Lamborghini seems to triple in value. I remember thinking a $250k car was insane in 1989, now that car (Countach 25th edition) is worth just shy of a million.

Recent cars you see sell high are those ugly Toyota FJ cruiser. Something like they are worth 90% of new cost after five years, which is insane.
Cars like that are a sure sign of a future demand. A la the Broncos from the seventies.

Pony cars are probably the best segment to bet on holding value and appreciating as a classic.
Even crap emissions ponys from the seventies with 150hp V8s, later became desirable. From inception until now, a special option camaro, mustang or charger would be the best bet for a future classic.

We are in the renaissance of the muscle car. A world where a current Toyota Camry could beat all but 2 or 3 1960's "muscle" cars in a straight line.
Let's not even get into handing.
What we consider muscle cars now is insane compared to those.
If we do trend to battery cars and such. High HP cars will have a collector's market.

This was from Popular Mechanics in 2009 and always stuck with me

Jay Leno Predicts Future Classic Cars

quote:

That's the difference. We want what we used to have. We get rid of it, and then we pay 10 to 15 times over what it was worth originally just to get it back--often to recapture whatever lost youth we thought we had.

That's why I think the Mazda Miata will be the ultimate affordable collectible by, say, 2025. The first-generation Miata was extremely simple, and that's part of its charm. Years ago, when we were restoring Mustangs, they seemed so complicated compared to a Ford Model A.

Those never came with 5.0s

Yes they did. The "new edge" s95 body style started in 1994, and the 5.0 was offered through '95.

I like the 67 Camaro better, 69 still sharp though.

I would like to update my 71 stingray, but my wife wants me to sell it.

New Edge refers to the 99-04 model. No 5.0s in a New Edge Mustang.

My BIL had one of these jags when they first came out and flipped it for a small fortune. werent these 750k in the 90's?

Not sure I believe the story. At least not for this Jag.

They were supposed to build more than they actually did. Problem was that even though several people put money down on them before their actual build date the buyers didn't actually pay for their cars. Product of a bad economy for Supercar buyers. This left Jaguar with a problem as they didn't sell all of the XJ220's that were built for several years. In other words for a few years after actual build date a person could still get a "new" XJ220 from the Jag. If new ones weren't selling then used ones weren't fetching premium money either. It's also why they didn't proceed with further updates that were planned.

It was, and still is, a phenomenal vehicle. Today you can buy them much cheaper than their original MSRP. Compared to their main competition at the time, Porsche 959 and Ferrari F40, which interestingly enough were made in bigger numbers and have escalated in prices by a large value.
