Outside of Nola or saltwater fishing your options are few. Kisatchie is a little too far of a drive for 1 day and even saltwater fishing is pushing it. BR is a shithole surrounded by shite. I'd go to Middendorfs or take a leisurely drive down river road to Roberto's if I was stuck in BR with a free day to get out.

Natchitoches

It's a similar vibe. Natchitoches has better bars/restaurants, Natchez has better history/architecture. Depends on what you're looking for.

Say what you want about BR, I'll likely agree to an extent. But the Felicianas are beautiful.

Natchez is a good one.

Eat at the carriage house or the castle. Tour some antebellum homes. Take a carriage ride downtown. Stroll main street shops. Check out the tourist welcom center for other ideas.

It's s good day trip just an hour & 1/2 up hwy 61.

Go visit the USS Kidd and join the "Mississippi River club".

This means sneaking off to a spot in the boat and hammering a quick one out.

I went to the leprosy museum in Carville, LA a few weeks ago. It was pretty interesting. You could go there then grab lunch at Robertos or a plantation around there.

Of all the plantations around BR, Houmas House is by far the best (best gardens, best house tour, and best restaurants).

Some one mentioned Avery Island. I went there this summer, thought it sucked. The tour is a joke.

Eat at Sammy's on Highland. Best food I found when I was there for work for a week.
