If you’re so wealthy, why are you wasting your time filling it out? Not required.

You're probably 100% wrongly right.

Isn't lying on those forms a felony?

I don't get it either. Did college make this a requirement?

Filled out a million of them, they have made it so easy now compared to the old paper forms.

So, I had TOPS and we never completed FAFSA. Parents didn’t want to. Didn’t stop me from getting TOPS.

LOL

You'd be amazed how little income/assets it takes to price out of need based aid.

And you can't apply or be eligible for academic schollies at most schools without it.

Hmm. Maybe that’s the difference. TOPS isn’t from the school, so we didn’t have to complete FAFSA for just TOPS.

I didn’t plan to apply for financial aid nor was I smart enough for a scholarship from LSU itself.

It’s a pretty easy work around. Just have your child emancipated. If you are in a tax bracket where you cannot take tax advantages of your children it works out great. Full ride scholarships, a wink wink here at the Bursar’s office and everyone is happy. Do you even have a competent tax lawyer?

Can you not claim the kid on your taxes?
So they can get theirs

State regulations mandate that a student either completes the FAFSA or an alternative state application to get TOPS. Either you went to school before the mandate or you did the FAFSA/alternative form at least once.

Louisiana made it a high school graduation requirement. Otherwise, it’s not specifically required to be completed if you just want to pay for school out of pocket or you can secure scholarships. Most colleges have need-based funding linked to the FAFSA (including done for students not getting the federal grants) but scholarships in general have no FAFSA requirement.
