Fry's is / was a great store. It's been on its last leg for quite some time. Every time I've gone in there the past few years, the shelves were mostly empty. Just bizarre.
It was a great place to go for picking up a random electronic part needed. It was nice to have as you didn't have to order something online and get it in the mail.

We had one in the Atlanta area that closed down about a year ago. The service there had really gone downhill. I had stopped going there at least a year prior to that since Microcenter was right down the street.
I went to one in Alpharetta/Roswell in like 2014 and I can remember it already looking mishmash and picked over. Like a $7k tv and further down the aisle a whole section of fake perfume and cologne.

Best Buys turnaround has been impressive.
Nationally they cut a shite load of managers, long time employees and full time staff with no warning a few weeks ago. I went in recently to look at some home networking and no one could answer simple fricking questions or advise me.

Bummer, I used to enjoy getting electronics there when I lived on the west coast. Def better than best buy. It was kind of like a Costco for electronics. Was a cool store.

For tech there was no better place for years. went to them in 91 (original store by the power station) and in Austin for years the Friday ad caused traffic jams to get there for the hot deals. No other store let you buy parts, buy fully assembled items, buy stereo and buy appliances under one roof. Sad day but new it was coming.

Man, we had a Fry's in Indianapolis. I wish I went there more. Place was awesome.

Pretty soon all brick and mortar stores will be mini distribution centers and warehouses containing the shite you order online. At that point we may as well come full circle.
I hope not. I actually like shopping in person, I like to see what I am buying and not have to wait for it in the mail and deal with any mail mishaps that may happen. I am probably in the minority here, however. And if the product isn't what you were expecting, you have to go through the pain the butt internet returns process.
Fry's is just another store that is subject to people's laziness. I still remember when the DFW area Fry's was called Incredible Universe, and it was a combination of Disneyland and an Electronics Store. They had "cast members" demo products and its probably why so many Fry's stores are themed these days since Fry's bought Incredible Universe. This was in the mid 90s.

Used to go to the one in Houston but hadn't been in 10 years. I guess if the stores had little stock, not much point in having a going out of business sale.

Sad. although, i haven't stepped foot in one in over ten years.
Back when I was building gaming computers, I could make a list of all the components I wanted and walk in to Fry's and they would have everything in stock. I'd go home and immediately assemble it all. It took longer to install the OS than it did to go to Fry's, buy the parts, drive home and assemble.
I got out of building them when all the water/liquid cooled and Xfires became the rage. Bought an xBox instead.
