Pretty good friend of mine was coming home Sunday night from visiting his wife's family for Father's Day. Wife and his 85 yr old mother were in the car.

They were on Elysian Fields when a car cut them off and started shooting. Another car began driving down the wrong side of the street and was shooting at the first car. My friend says he didn't know what to do. He felt helpless in the situation and in disbelief. Luckily no one was hurt.

I've told him he needs to GTFO of that shite hole of a city. There is no order. The criminals are in charge. His family has been in Nola for a long time and he loves the city, so I don't think he's going anywhere.

The good people still left should start their own militia. The cops can't do anything. Teedy is getting into fights at rap shows and blowing money on giant hair picks. You're own your own.

The fact that you don’t think that story sounds believable shows how bad New Orleans has gotten. Not every incident is reported on the news. I had a friend get shot at in her car for no reason. Person just pulled next to her, started shooting, then drove off. I mean, frick, you’d think they would at least want to conserve bullets with the cost of ammo. Why randomly start shooting at people?

If you are a law abiding Caucasian with family and have career options you are an absolute stupid son of a bitch to willingly choose to live in that shite dump.

When you steal your ammo your cost hasn't changed.

Meanwhile up here we went for a 4 mile hike in 70 degree weather. At the top of the trail I looked down over a canopy, a golf course, and a public greenbelt that held dozens of pedestrians and cyclists. We rode back home through a downtown full of people, all of whom were not worried about getting mugged.

I don't get why yall are staying down there. Maybe I just had a really really bad family life. I don't think there is anything that could get me down there. Even if you have all the money in the world all it takes is needing gas at the wrong time.

I've said it to my family when they complain about the weather, an incident nearby, infrastructure. Leave your hometown. You don't owe anyone anything and you aren't giving it to them by staying there.

Moving away won't solve your problems, but it will give you a different perspective, particularly if you've lived in Louisiana your entire life. There are parts of the country where people respect their community, their neighbors, and want to live peacefully.

Leave. Desert it. Let them kill each other.

Nothing OP said is wrong.

Nola made it's bed. Let it fricking rot. Destroya is a fricking alcoholic and letting it become a 3rd world country. Very very Somalia-esque. The smart thing would be to move and never come back.

I moved to this recently and while I did not upgrade to a bigger house and I now pay a little more of a note the lifestyle upgrade is significant.

It didn’t happen.

But the rednecks are branching out and making shite up about SF, another city none of them can afford to visit.
