Looks like south of 10 is going to catch the worst of it for Laffy. Starting to darken up outside in Baton Rouge now too.

Will it be enough to cancel kids' baseball practice tonight at 7:30? I'll hang up and listen.

I decided to leave about 15 minutes sooner than I normally do. Looking at the radar, that was a good choice. Looks like its about to pour in Lafayette. Umbrella don't do shite in a stiff wind driven dew.

Turns into a sail with those winds.

Just took a look outside, glad I don't have a Friday class.

ETA: fatboy, that depends on how well the practice field drains. It should clear up a bit after lunch.

I do'nt know what the frick happen, but about 15 minutes ago a violent burst of wind came through by my house.

Ripped my satellite off my roof. Didn't know that was possible considering i've been through hurricanes and other strong wind storms. Literally ripped the singles off and everything.

There's a part of me that really misses Thunderstorms up here since I moved away from the South years ago.

Then there's the nope, nope, nope reaction to looking at that stuff on radar.

A derecho is a widespread and long-lived windstorm that is associated with a fast-moving band of severe thunderstorms. They can produce significant damage to property and pose a serious threat life, primarily by downburst winds. To be classified as a derecho, the path length of the storm has to be at least 280 miles long. Widths may vary from 50-300 miles. Derechos are usually not associated with a cold front, but a stationary front. They occur mostly in July, but can occur at anytime during the spring and summer.

Looking at the radar, the band lost strength right around the time it got to Lafayette. It went from a squall line to just a mass of showers.
