French found a case of COVID dating back to December 2nd

Basically they went back and looked at all CT scans that had signs of COVID and then contacted those patients for testing. The patient from December 2nd tested positive. The others in November haven’t been tested yet.

The first case of coronavirus in France dates back to December 2. The head of the medical imaging department of the Albert-Schweitzer hospital in Colmar (Haut-Rhin) told franceinfo, Thursday, May 7, that a man hospitalized on that date for a "respiratory infection" was found to have Covid-19, through subsequent reviews. So far, a resident of Seine-Saint-Denis, who fell ill at the end of December, was considered the first person affected by Covid-19 in France.

This new study of scanners has identified two cases of suspected coronavirus, on November 16 and 17. "We have one case on November 29, three cases on December 2, one case on December 10, one case on December 13, one case on December 27, two cases on January 3 and after, it gradually increases ...", details Michel Schmitt. One of the suspected cases of December 2 was later confirmed by a test for Covid-19 and is now "certain all data combined". The 57-year-old man, hospitalized "about a week", is now in good health. To date, it is unknown how he contracted the virus. For the two suspected cases in November, the scanners have yet to be confirmed by other elements. "You have to contact the patients, see what has become of them, know their history and, if history justifies it, do a blood test and an antibody test," explains Michel Schmitt. In total, the study of scanners started "ten days ago" revealed "338 typical Covid-19 scanners between November 1 and April 30, 2020". The hospital is currently "cross-referencing" these data with screening tests, in order to confirm the suspected cases.

I’m starting to realize that this shite does spread like wildfire. However, very few in the chain of spread actually get sick. The medical doomers will go on and on about RO this and RO that but who gives a damn about the contagiousness if it doesn’t put up a fight in most healthy folks?

Should this have translated to "scans" rather than "scanners"?
Interesting, though. Does this mean it was out of China earlier than thought or that China isn't to blame?
Also...that lady is not having a good day!

Not so subtle brag.
Seriously, this can't be true. We have been assured that the virus emerged from the Wuhan wet market in December 2019.

Well to be honest we have to be careful. It appears what they did was just an antibody test so there are a couple of possibilities if you choose to be skeptical:
1. They were exposed at some other time later and developed antibodies
2. Their test was a false positive
I’m sure that will be the critiques we hear. However, if they are able to confirm this with the other patients they have identified the odds of that being the case will be much lower

That’s a good thing. It means there are many many more unidentified cases out there

I mean...this is absolutely a strong likelihood here. If you pull all of the people that were sick with an "unknown" respiratory issue in the fall of 2019 you are bound to find some frickers that then got Covid and were asymptomatic in spring of 2020.
Fricking A, these people are being idiots here. Unless there's a way to date their infection this data is almost worthless.

I wouldn’t go that far. They have CT scans that are classic for COVID. I actually think this is decent evidence but more work needs to be done.

They didn’t do that. They identified scans that looked like COVID. Then contacted the patient.

Important possibilities to consider.
But haven't we heard that those CT Scans with the "ground glass" bilateral imaging are diagnostic for this disease? Anything else known to cause those types of images?

Or they had one of many other corona viruses.

Yes. A lot of other issues can look like that. But if you consider the clinical history and the other patients they identified have antibodies then the likelihood of this being COVID increases. Although we can’t be certain unless they stored samples from the time of hospitalization.

I'm not a doctor and I have the utmost respect for most Docs. But the reality is that up until recently Docs were being very particular on giving Covid tests to only those that "had all the symptoms" and the testing still came back at only about 20% positives AT BEST.
My point is, I hear this every day. Docs think they know, then a week later its debunked.

Not only that, in the beginning you still had to fit other criteria such as age/at-risk or having traveled internationally to get a test, despite having the symptoms.

I could accept this, but where did they get it from? If you showed me some guy that tested positive in Dec then before announcing it they need to determine some realistic scenario of them getting it.
There was that fish monger in late December or whatever in France. How did a Fish Monger get it? Did he sell to a chinese restaurant that was just in China?
I mean a Door Man at a Paris hotel with a lot of Chinese visitors? Sure, I'd accept that. Some farmer in rural France? No.

I think they had their first official case in November. Or at least that’s when they thought them first case caught it.

Correct. The Chinese definitely had November cases, and I'll be it goes back further than that.

Well let’s be honest there are really only 2 possibilities:
1. The Chinese know exactly when it got out of the lab
Or
2. It didn’t come out of the lab and the Chinese have no idea who patient zero was
These are the only possibilities given the massive amount of asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic cases we have seen.
Just think of how many cases would have developed and dispersed before the first patient even went into the hospital with symptoms that look exactly like the flu and at that time they didn’t even have a test to identify it.

Pretty sure there were cases in Miami in December and January even though they didn't announce anything officially until later. It's hard to believe that major cities didn't have community spread until that late and there had to have been travel cases earlier even than that.
