Free Amazon products for giving a review

Anyone do this? Wondering if there is some kind of a catch to it.
I got an email from a company that I bought some supplements from saying they would give me another of their products for free if I just give them an honest review on Amazon.
Supposedly, the product (and shipping) are completely free.

Dear Amazon,
The KY jelly has a nice consistency, but the flavor leaves something to be desired.
3/5 stars.

I gave one review about a show my kids watched daily with the amazon video. It was free and then once I submitted a review, it changed to $1.99 an episode. I never submitted a review again

A lot of new sellers will do this to gain traction. They are willing to give a cheap product away for a quick influx of great reviews. If you are starting out selling on Amazon it's a pretty good strategy.

I hate this practice on amazon. I don't begrudge people free stuff, but you would think every product on Amazon is miraculous based on the 1000 reviews so many items receive. I used to rely on reviews to determine purchases, and I can't anymore.

I've had a supplements company do this for me for a free pre-workout. It was legit. And by honest review, they mean a 5 star review ;)

Have had new Trent portable chargers do that with me. But that's it for me..

This is what I was thinking too. I looked over a lot of the reviews for their products and a LOT of them have reviewers who disclose they received the product for free. I imagine it skews the ratings a pretty large amount.
But screw it, I'll go ahead and get the free product and test it out. I really will give an honest review on it though and not simply rate 5 stars if not worth it.

As long as you are upfront about reviewing it for free, I don't see the harm.
