Let's see. They interview the commander of a Marine Corps F/A-18,squadron. His squadron is equipped with 30 year old planes, already thousands of hours over what they were designed to fly. And his squadron is down to only TWO operational planes due to breakdowns. And things are so bad, they've had to resort to cannibalizing parts off other aircraft in the squadron and have even had to cannibalize museum planes as well. Oh, and on top of all of that, they've cut training flying hours by 50%.

There is definitely much more inefficiencies to be cut here.

While it would be unfortunate if that report does indeed have some credibility to it, foot soldiers won't do a dicks worth of difference if war really did break out between the big players like that. Cyber, economic, and space warfare would be the sole determining factors. But thanks to globalization and the MickeyD's peace theory, I don't believe another major conflict will ever break out.....

They're making shite out to be far worse than what it is...
We CANN shite every day in the Air Force. I'm sure the Marines aren't any different. I've also had guys pull parts off of static display aircraft or ground trainers on multiple occasions.
I don't know how many aircraft that squadron has, but I'd guess somewhere in the range of 15-25... If they really needed to get creative, they could have several more aircraft air worthy by canning more parts.

Well, there you have it. I'm sure you know far more about the state of this Marine Corps fighter squadron than the guy in the video. Hell, he's just the commander of that squadron. What does he know?
And it's only a minor detail his squadron is flying 30 year old aircraft that should have been retired thousands of hours ago. But hey, even there, there's a silver lining. With the drastic cuts in training flights (not to mention only 2 of their fighters can even fricking fly right now) those old birds will last a long time.
