Parents should be jailed for neglect. Even if the child had lived, he/she wouldn't stand a chance with parents like that.

I realized this, my point is that this type of outbreaks have come and gone away through history with no vaccine. I’m not saying a vaccine doesn’t help.

Yes, but how do you think these outbreaks resolve?

Do you think the bacteria just says, “well, I’ve done enough. Time to call it a day,” and it ends?

No, they run out of individuals to infect.

Who says it was an unvaccinated child?

Article clearly says “unvaccinated person”. Baby could have gotten it from contact with an unvaccinated adult.

How many of you adults are current on your meningitis vaccines?

Again, there are other bacteria that cause meningitis in infants.

Those vaccines are at a younger age, specifically 2, 4, and 6 mos.

Those bacteria are far more common in this infants age group.

They did not state which bacteria was the culprit, nor did they state that it was from an unvaccinated child.

It could have been meningococcemia, but it could have been one of the more common ones for this age group.

I was wrong anyway...Doctors know best...from the CDC

"CDC recommends routine meningococcal conjugate vaccination for:

All preteens and teens at 11 to 12 years old with a booster dose at 16

Children and adults at increased risk for meningococcal disease

CDC recommends routine serogroup B meningococcal vaccination for

People 10 years or older at increased risk for meningococcal disease"

You start vaccines at 6 weeks to 8 weeks (~2 months).

Not meningitis. That comes when kids are 11 or 12 years old.

Incorrect.

Read any of Scruffy’s previous posts about this topic.

Can you explain how this works? What does the booster do that makes the vaccine more effective? How come all vaccines don't require boosters?

Yeah I saw some after I posted. I had to Google to make sure I wasn't unintentionally neglecting my kid because he hasn't gotten this vaccine yet.

Because the diseases these protect against are not the same. Some of the vaccines wear off over time, some don’t.

In summary though, anyone who doesn’t vaccinate their children is an absolute gullible moron who should be shamed by society as a whole.

Uh frick that. Unless there are legitimate reasons why the child cannot be vaccinated, these parents should have their kids removed from them and thrown in jail for child abuse.

Yeah, I'm wondering why some do and some don't. I guess there isn't an easy answer.

It depends on what response it stimulates.

Certain immune globulins last longer than others. Some vaccines stimulate your "memory" cells that provide a longer lasting immunity, some can't quite as well.

All these people on the board in support of vaccinations, which I am too.

However, ask them about the flu vaccine and they say the complete opposite. If everyone got the flu vaccine, the number infected would dramatically decrease.

The 4 month old was not vaccinated yet.

Why are so many people ignorant about what vaccines children actually receive?

Are healthcare professionals doing that shitty of a job explaining what they are receiving the vaccines for?

Scruffy is getting really tired of posting the same explanations over and over in this thread.
