I never had understood the obsession over $.10 difference on a gallon of gas. People will spend $5 worth of gas to drive across town in order to save $4 at the pump on a full tank.

Not sure what gas is in other places where you are but I never fully understood people going out of their way to save 10 to 20 cents a gallon on gas. My tank is 17 gallons. What am I saving $2?
Now if you are saving like a dollar a gallon, then maybe sure I'm all about going out of my way or being inconvenienced for cheaper gas.

I actually had this happen before my last trip to MS. The gas station a couple blocks from my house was like 50 cents more than the Neighborhood Market about 10 blocks away from the gas station. It was a full fillup so over $6-7 savings...but a short drive.

Gas at Sam's by me is usually about a quarter a gallon cheaper.
$.25 x 24 gallons = $6
$6 about once a week is ~$300

I honestly don’t think that they have ever done the math, or, quite possibly, can’t do the math.
