If you're in BR the LSU vet school can help with wildlife.
Good for you on reaching your kids to respect and appreciate wild animals. Whether when hunting or helping the young or injured.

Not in Louisiana. Will check with my local community college tomorrow.
Thanks for the replies.

Rabbits use lights? Who knew?

Just call any vet tomorrow and they can omit you in the right direction. As noted above the LSU Small Animal Clnic will take anything.

Especially little baby bunnies. We find them all the time. We used to try to help them because we thought they lost their mommy, but no matter what we did, they always died. Damned if you do and damned if you don't...

It's a rabbit, for real just feed it and give it water if it looks weak then let it go. There's no reason to bring him to the vet or anything. If it doesn't make it after you helped then oh well. Not like you will know

Tell the little fella this: "Look, you may have to pass away after a very brief life, but, look at the bright side: at least you never had to spend any of your life living in Louisiana or cheering for Coach O."
That should cheer him up!
People from Louisiana are some really self-hating people!

Please don't kill it. Put it outside and its mother will get it. I wonder if fire ants got the others?

I just put it back where I think the nest is. I don't want to cause it to be worse in a bucket. Hopefully mama comes and finds it. I think that's probably best.
Don't think ants got them. The other ones were same size but something punctured them.
Again, thanks for the help baws and bawettes

That is weird because the most logical culprit, a snake, would have eaten them (unless there were more and the snake was ingesting/digesting one, expecting to come back and get the others).

Could have been a snake. Never seen one around here (doesn't mean there isn't any).
Tons of rabits out here. Cyotes also, but don't know why they'd harm them and not eat them. Could've attacked and then something spooked them like a car or something.

I think that sometimes a venomous snake, when confronted with more than one food item, will strike more than one then take one into its mouth to eat. It will eat it, then come back for another victim of the poison.
I can't think of anything else that would "puncture" a baby rabbit.
EDIT: I did a google and this is apparently not an uncommon topic. Some said that a weasel or fox (weasel more than a fox) would kill and not eat it, or a well-fed cat. But, why would they let one survive? Said a person might have scared the predator away.
