Not really, as China would not do shite while we had the might of the Pacific Fleet within a stones throw.

The Chinese bark is worse than its bite.

haha yes and and idk if texas is just massive or Europe is just tiny but looking for that picture I saw a few other and it made me think
Germany is about the size of Minnesota I think. Europe is not that big, most countries there are the size of our states.

Why not?

A) Contrary to what most people think on here, the Chinese are not warmongers.

B) Chinese growth depends upon stability in the region.

C) China does not want to start WWIII.

D) Our military is still vastly superior to theirs, so unless something crazy happens in the next 10-20 years, the Chinese still want no part of the US/Allied forces.

Taiwan is symbolic. They won't go to war for it. China wants dominance in the South China Sea. Right now we are the dominant power, the other South China Sea nations want us to remain the dominant power. China is trying to change that. We're trying to keep the status quo. The largest arms race since the Cold War is taking place in the South China Sea right now

Good point about the South China Sea. But look at it from this perspective. From a standpoint of balance of power in the South China Sea, what would Chia gaining control over the island of Formosa do? Right now this island is occupied by a hostile entity. But if China attacked Tiawan and gained control of that island, the balance of power in the South China Sea would take a huge shift in their favor. And if the Chinese saw we had our hands full in Korea, I think there's a good chance they'd see this as their chance to make their move.

I could see China moving in to NK with a quick vengeance before we could even react, and taking out KJI's regime and installing their own. I don't think they want the countries uniting.

They wouldn't have a chance to do it before us. An attack on SK, is an attack on the US, and so our forces there would strike at the first sign of an attack.

What countries?

I mean, we're about as united as you can get with SK already...

The Chinese want the resources in the South China Sea. Their future growth depends on it. Our allies in the region don't want to give up their rightful claims. It's why we've been positioning more and more forces in the region while the Chinese build islands with airbases and missile batteries capable of denying our fleet access to the South China Sea. Every South China Sea nation is building up their militaries. Right now there are more armed forces in the region than anywhere else in the world.

his whole conversation is hypothetical though and very unlikely because NK wont attack

While highly doubtful, the possibility of an attack from North Korea cannot be ruled out for one simple reason. Namely because the whole country is batshit crazy and its leader is perhaps craziest one of them all.

Very true. The South China Sea is one big powder keg right now.

Serious question, do you guys just watch the military channel all damn day? Being how knowledgeable some of are about past wars and scenarios, you'd expect at least half of you to be military officials.

I'd say there's at least a 60% to 70% chance of war between the US and China in the next 10-20 years.

Sure, if we wanted to commit mutual economic suicide.

It's more likely we form one super power and divide the world in half before taking to the stars to conquer and pillage the Universe.

Not a chance. The US would tell Taiwan to stand the frick down and not say shite while this was going on.

Peace, growth, and money. China does not gain anything by going to war with the US and our allies - it's that simple. Besides, China is not ruled by a maniacal despot that is looking to throw the world into chaos, so that's nice.

We were Japan's largest trading partner prior to WWII.

I heard it mentioned on tv a while back that the US always has a submarine in the Western Pacific with nuclear missiles ready to fire at North Korea if needed.

Discussion of this matter went quit after that one mention.......

So are they or are they not attempting to establish dominance in the South China Sea?

Yes, the US was Japan's biggest trading partner before WWII.

There are several examples of countries going towards with their biggest economic partners. WWI is a prime example. Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia, and Austria were all very much entangled from an economic standpoint. That didn't stop them.

Seriously? That is an interesting field of study and probably could be quite lucrative
