Well, Hussein actually invaded another country, so...

you think the Chinese would sit back while the US and SK get credit for eliminating the crazy worldwide nuclear threat of NK? no way
No, I don't think they'd sit back and do nothing. But I also don't think they'd give military help to the US and South Korea against North Korea either. I could see them either brokering a peace, or trying to anyway. Or perhaps they'd try to force a regime change in the North to end such a war.

Essentially, he ran joint training operations, worked on all those intricate plans and scenarios, and war games
So, he does know his shite. But this is dinner table talk, and he's typically pretty honest in his assessments. If he had to write and official report, as he often did, he'd probably hedge his bets and push his numbers out.
In his opinion the only reason N. Korea exists is that Seoul is located in an inconvenient place.

How many counties in Texas would that be?

No, what would give you that impression?
I'm simply giving my view on the matter.

Counter battery radar directing air power and friend artillery would only allow targets to get off 1-2 shots before being located and counterattacked.
NK has artillery on trailers or are on a fixed position. I doubt they would actually be able to reach the theoretical max of 500K shells/hr
They will still frick Seoul up though.

I don't think the Chinese would come into the war on our side. The last thing they would want is to help the U.S. Gain any ground or influence in Asia, especially right on their doorstep
They may not support us officially but I can see them making a backroom deal in exchange for something they consider beneficial to themselves, like requiring us to leave the peninsula after the cessation of hostilities. IF we're even willing to take that deal. We're a huge trading partner and the DPRK is a headache for them.

China would take no stance militarily, unless something encroached on their borders. Otherwise, China would allow us to do what we needed to do to shut NK down.

I have no doubt we can locate and silence their artillery. The problem though is one of numbers. Yes, most of their artillery is old towed pieces, but they've got thousands of them. Just due to the numbers involved, it will take time to take them all out unless we resort to tactical nuclear weapons from the onset and do so on a massive scale.

I doubt the Chinese would do anything but play the mediator. Militarily, all they'll do, imo, is mass on the NK border to stem the flow of refugees. The last thing China wants to do is to have a war footing against the U.S.

They've been preparing for war with the US for a generation.

@ 29,000 American soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines in South Korea.
Little difficult to avoid bro.

Here's an interesting "what if".... Say the North did start a war against the South. Once we're eyeball deep there, what if China desided it was time to settle the Taiwan question once and for all?
Posted on 5/3/16 at 1:07 pm to RummelTiger
I'd say there's at least a 60% to 70% chance of war between the US and China in the next 10-20 years.

Taiwan is symbolic. They won't go to war for it. China wants dominance in the South China Sea. Right now we are the dominant power, the other South China Sea nations want us to remain the dominant power. China is trying to change that. We're trying to keep the status quo. The largest arms race since the Cold War is taking place in the South China Sea right now.

As they should. It's the smart thing to do but imo, China isn't going to provoke the U.S. into a war.
