that's funny. i like to browse FBM b/c there are often deals. expanding my search to the Laffy area has really opened things up

It is but they are becoming obsolete due to the complexity of modern cars and fuel efficiency requirements. Modern automatic transmissions are superior to manual transmissions in every way and have almost completely supplanted them.

I drove a 755 hp corvette recently with auto and loved it. There’s no way I could handle it in manual

Except for the fun of working the machine, for people who enjoy the mechanics of making the machine function.
From a performance standpoint, it's been a minute since humans could outperform a paddle shifter. They've gotten too refined and don't scavenge nearly as much power as they used to and the speed with which a dual clutch arrangement can execute a gear change is blinding. Plus, with the stupid fast gear changes at the driver's fingertips, manufacturers can cram more gear ratios into a gearbox letting the driver rip up and down through them without fatigue to keep the car right at the peak of its powerband.
I enjoy using all four limbs when driving, but I think I'm looking for a paddle shifter on my next car.

I'm not arguing that point. My current vehicle is a 6 speed manual but if I were looking to purchase a high performance sports car I wouldn't entertain anything other than a modern automatic transmission for the performance factor.

I've never found one that could figure out what gear I want to be in. On a given course, a human can learn where the curves are and what the optimum places to shift are. This doesn't necessarily have any relationship to the position of the accelerator or the speed of the engine (i.e. the information available to the TCM). The curves themselves are an independent variable about which the automatic has no information.
Now, if you have paddle-shifters, this mostly gives you the same thing. But I've never seen a paddle-shifter that could skip gears, or modulate the clutch differently for a fast launch vs. for minimum wear.
There probably are systems that can do both of these things automatically, in some form (like a "launch mode"), but at a certain level of complexity I start to wonder what the point is. If you truly let the driver control gear selection, you're forfeiting most of the MPG and emissions improvements promised by an automatic anyway. And for what? A very expensive, slightly quicker shite? More likely the goal is compatibility with the 80% of drivers who can't drive stick but somehow think they need a sports car.

There’s a gigantic difference between and automatic transmission, typically with a torque converter and some of the newer dual clutches. Auto is faster than manual 99 out of 100 times.. maybe more. But a DCT is faster than both of the others all the time. There’s no comparison. Efficiency and direct drive of a manual with lightning fast shifts and all the computer controls for launch control and other ways to make you faster. Plus they’re just fun. I’ve driven a gated manual UR built Gallardo and an e-gear UR Gallardo. The e-gear car was more fun and faster, and that’s not even a modern DCT like the new C8, GT500 or GTR have.
