Unless Mississippi has changed their laws in the last five years, it's still legal there.
True story, as long as you're not in a dry county or one that has its own ordinances against open containers. When I was first stuckinMS, I'd gotten hit in a parking lot and my headlight was wiped out. I'd scheduled to bring it into the shop so they could fix it, but it was a couple of days down the road.
I worked late one night and stopped and got myself two beers for the ride home. One was on the passenger seat and the other half of one was open in the cupholder. A few blocks from my place, a car passed me going the other way, whipped a u-turn, and threw on the rollers. I pulled off on a side street and the cop came up to the window, mentioned my two beers and I told him I picked up a couple on my way home from work. He told me he pulled me over for the busted headlight and I showed him my appointment reminder to bring the car into the shop in the next couple of days.
He went back to his car to check my license and registration, came back and handed them to me, and told me to have a good night and just make sure I don't enjoy too much beer before I got home and sent me on my way.
Being stuckinMS didn't suck 100% of the time.

And those cars don't depreciate. The 05/06 GTs are going on 13 and 14 years old and values keep rising.

What makes it not street legal?
ETA: other than I am assuming he doesn't have it registered or insured.

I guess you got that.
He probably doesn't have legal tread either.

That is something else!
Would you know if you can get that model with curb feelers and a fuzzy dash?

most states require two mirrors. Cops just usually dont enforce it

Technically not street legal. All you get is a 'fix it' ticket.
Have never been pulled over nor heard someone pulled over for it.

That’s the reason why the mirrors for the CJs weren’t attached to the doors. However, the passenger side mirror was set up in a way that you looked at it through the windshield.
And SFP, mirrors were removed to keep them from blowing off and getting under the rear wheels breaking traction, in addition to drag reduction.

Where the headlight lenses should be is a blacked out piece of plastic. Tinting headlight lenses is not street legal. The headlights likely have been removed to save weight. Not having headlights is not street legal.
