Tesla is selling them faster than they can make them.

Dealerships directly and indirectly employ a lot of people. When the US factory died small towns nationwide died. Now we're going to kill off retailers, dealerships, etc. All of these places make up an ecosystem of consumerism and we'll all suffer to save a few bucks on our cars. Yet the sales guys are out of a job and then they stop buying whatever it is that your company sells. Then the contractors who build dealerships are out of jobs and they too stop buying what it is your company sells. It is a bad cycle.
So we should subsidize an abusive, inefficient business model instead?

FYI FWIW The money in auto dealerships is in the service departments. Those $800 oil changes add up much faster than the $500-1000 profit they make selling you a $40k vehicle.

The other profit center is the finance office.

There was never a more crooked profession than that one. I'll really miss them when they're gone.

So now I'm actually going to have to pay 55k for that F150 instead of 35 after rebates and dealing with a sleazy dealer?

Trying to act like the dealer network adds value to this equation

I’m all for it. No reason to have to haggle. The manufacturer gets a certain amount regardless. The dealer holdbacks and unnecessary added mark ups need to go away. I don’t want the “interior protection” or “nitrogen filled tires” etc. Most honest dealers will tell you they make more on used cars.

Manufacturers have to do something. They enjoyed all of this “zero percent” financing for too long. Nothing is/was free. They were still making their money by increasing the msrp costs but it was zero percent right? Only way to really lower the price of a vehicle is to eliminate that extra layer of pricing. The manufacturer isn’t going to lose. The dealerships don’t have the inventory and really won’t have much say.

So we can assume the price of the vehicle will come down significantly if there are no dealerships and allied staffs to maintain.

I just have to laugh at this.

Due to outside forces, dealer lots are empty for the first time in decades.

That obviously means dealers have no place in today's world.

Laughable.

Why do I need a dealer? What value does a dealer add when I buy a GMC truck for example? Is it really worth the $10k or whatever markup?

Someone’s got to employ all the baws who can’t make it through the police academy. And think about all those retired athletes who buy franchises? What do you expect them to do? Have some compassion, Nick Saban needs a way to funnel chargers to players.

Other than the past year or so when have you ever paid a markup on a Sierra?

Amazing how short memories are.

frick dealerships. The only people that don’t like this are people that mark up vehicles 10-15k over MSRP for that sweet commission.

I don’t give two shits if this causes people to lose their jobs. Car salesmen deserve to lose their jobs
