Apartments lead to minimalist bachelor pads, carefree Tinder sex, beer on the fridge, vacation planners, lots of sports and action movies on TV and piles of disposable income.
They hated Jesus because he spoke the truth.

Honestly seems about right. I have owned my current home for almost five years. In that time I have changed both A/C units to the tune of $15k. Also some other upgrades that are in that price range. Will be needing a new roof soon that will be in the $20k range

Scam? In 7 years I paid a few thousand in upkeep. I sold it for 400k more than I paid for it.

Don’t buy an old house unless you enjoy tinkering and fixing stuff.
Some people like that, and the charm of an old house. Even with awesome updates there’s old shite behind the walls, attic, old pipes under the house etc. I learnt it.

Actually, you ruined it for yourself.
Instead of blaming everyone, blame yourself.

If you are spending $5k on maintenance yearly, face the fact. You bought a shitty built house. Buyer beware.

Rent for a shitty 1br is about $2200-2500 where I live.
Painful in comparison to a mortgage

Mine isnt bad here at $1000, but it sucks that it goes up every year and I have to haggle to get it back to reasonable. I much rather have a mortgage that stays steady and think of money spent in the house as an investment.

Agreed. If you know you'll be somewhere for a while it makes sense to buy. I'm kind of sick of living where I am so I am slightly happy I just rent.

Unless you’re doing renovations or have an avalanche of frick ups, you should not be spending over $5K/year on upkeep. That’s ridiculous.
I probably pay close to that for lawn care and landscape maintenance, leaf cleanup, and tree trimming.

What maintenance are you doing year over year for 20 years that costs $5k a year? Appliances go out every 5-10 years. Only one I can think of is the air conditioner that costs more than $5k.
You priced a friggin' roof lately?
