Been watching this thread with interest.

Most important point is deciding when to engage as a CCW. Concealment in itself is an inherent advantage as you typically get to make the choice to engage or not. If you're carrying openly with a uniform on you're generally part of the confrontation whether you like it or not.

I would say choose wisely and protect you and yours. If others can benefit then so be it.

Self preservation does not equal cowardice. I would suspect most CCW making this decision to engage would be vastly different odds if you were geared as an LEO (vest and more rounds on person, possibly shotgun from car, possibly AR from car, backup on the way or present, etc).

I'd love to save innocent lives but I don't know that I'd be willing to bet my life that I could in all cases just because I have a pistol and one mag on my belt.

Each to his own and a decision you have to make if you carry...

I’ll share this one, damn solid points but the opposite advice:

LINK

TLDR: open season on active killers, it is our duty to train and be prepared to violently execute an engagement at any time in public. Don’t wring your hands and shake your head, be a fricking man and take the responsibility to defend your family and other good people.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. You think this guy didn't know it was dangerous trying to eliminate an armed nut firing off shots in a Wal-Mart?

You keep using the term "play hero" as though his actions should be mocked rather than praised. He made a selfless decision to put himself at risk instead of fleeing, which he easily could have. He made an attempt to use the means available to him to prevent innocents from being slaughtered. If not for the trailing perp it looks like he was on the right track to taking that fricker out early on.

quote:

But I wouldn't go seeking out playing the hero, and chase the shooter clear across the store/building.

And you don't have to and that's fine. That has no relevance to the actions shown in the video. He was willing to put his life at risk because he knew he was likely the only one on the scene who had the means to prevent a lot of innocents dying before cops could arrive.

He was killed trying to save other people's lives and you seem to want to discourage CCW's from wanting to take action in similar situations. It's kind of puzzling.

The CCW is to get me and the fam the hell outta there, not to be a hero.

Legitimate points but my life is worth an evaluation on whether or not I am going to be effective at eliminating the "active killer" on my own with my handgun.

Certainly these cowards being aware they will likely be challenged is a deterrent in itself and a good thing.

Each to his own...

It’s not even about rushing in like a firefighter saving a puppy or a light saving the princess. It’s about being in the right place at the right time and greatly decreasing the likelihood or amount of harm these pricks cause.

In the end, if and when it happens, I’d definitely prefer having protection.

I won’t have it inside a store obviously but if something happens outside I can head shoot at 500 yards consistently. Kinda like AT&T. I can reach out and touch you long distance.

You do not own a single firearm, and most likely have extremely limited experince even handling any. Post a picture of your 30-06 or gtfo.

frick that cowardly mantra.

There's nothing cowardly about saving your own skin in a situation where you are caught unprepared and are out gunned.

This applies to every single mass shooting by the way, so frick off with your high horse. You'd probably be the first to piss your pants.
