I carry for my family and my own protection. If I am able to help others flee I will do so. I will not engage the shooter unless necessary nor go running after the shooter. Probably wound not even pull my pistol out of the holster unless needed for fear it may cause more panic or confusion. If I can give cover while others run, then I've done all I can in an active shooter situation.

I don’t even conceal carry. I’d like to think I’d still try to stop the guy.

I hope you would. I hope I would too. But if your 50 feet away without the element of surprise, your chances of success are pretty slim.

Right, it all depends on the situation.

I have my CCDW, and I would try to defend myself, but probably not as a first step, and I would guess my aim will be shaky given the situation.

I'd like to think I'd help out but I don't know if I would chase down a shooter.

But to your point, if you survive the first 5 or so seconds of a shooting event, I postulate that you WOULD have the element of surprise on your side as a defender. So many shootings end when the shooter is confronted. They are either shot or they shoot themselves or they lose the taste to fight because they too are now being shot at.

It's a situation that I hope to never be in.

Well put.

In response to the thread, I still want the option to CC to have a chance at survival. Last resort. Hope I never use it.

I stay close to a S&W .357 6” barrel revolver. It covers distance pretty well. Am going to put a 30/06 rifle behind my truck seat permanently though. I won’t have it inside a store obviously but if something happens outside I can head shoot at 500 yards consistently. Kinda like AT&T. I can reach out and touch you long distance.

some prosecutors will consider that murder because someone at that distance from you may not be considered a threat directed towards you. unless he's trying to snipe you first.

Even if you're carrying your best bet is to GTFO as fast as you can.

While obviously a stupid way to prepare for such things, in the miraculous event that he somehow snipes a mass shooter inside a building from a parking lot from 500 yards, I don't think a prosecutor will go after him for trying to neutralize someone killing people indiscriminately.

Yes, we would all be of sound mind in an active shooters situation...

I was having a conversation with a black guy about 20 years ago about this subject. His comment was you white people don't understand when the gun fire breaks out..Black people know, they just run.
