I saw an interview with Jimmy who told a similar story but that Buford only reached through the car window and might have beat him but the driver sped up and was able to break free. He avoided the hotel for fear of running into Buford even the next morning when he learned it was Pusser.
Jimmy had just finished recording the album that produced Come Monday. He said he and the boys were celebrating the album and everyone was drunk af. He acknowledged standing on Buford's car. Said it was one of the dumbest things he'd ever done.

I've talked to many an old timer in and around the area and no one had a bad thing to say. The common opinion was that area folk who bad mouth Buford were or had family with a criminal past and an ax to grind.

She also had a broken nose that was in the process of healing. The experts said it was indicative of interpersonal trauma - meaning someone had broken it.

Unless a viable and believable scenario is explained for Buford shooting himself in the face I'll believe Buford.
Tennessee was full of corrupt political figures and law enforcement at the time, all the way up to and all through Nashville (the Capital). Buford knew who was on the take. He was a target for the bad guys and some of the so-called good guys.
There are still folks with an ?? to grind.

Hang on, they'll be releasing a 1000 page report in a few days of all the evidence. Just from the little I know it's overwhelming against him. This was an extremely thorough cold case investigation.

The report will say only that evidence suggests that the event did not unfold as believed. That enough evidence exists to consider the possiblity of a grand jury referral. THAT'S A VERY LOW STANDARD!

They are releasing the full file in a couple days, which they almost never do. I know some of the stuff about the outside the car situation, but I am curious how they figured out he shot himself, don't have many details on how they proved that.

It’s good to know we have the time and resources to exhume a woman dead for 50 years but we don’t know how or why that kid almost killed the president.
