It’s getting to the point where drinking is just making me miserable. My health is awful. My marriage is failing, I have no energy and Just feel terrible. I hate going anywhere unless there is alcohol because thinking of having to do something without alcohol gives me anxiety. I’m sick of having to lie to my boss that I have the flu or covid (again) when I really am just hungover. Any tips would be helpful but I have to change now before it gets really bad

Find an activity you really enjoy doing, something that can engross you completely to at you won’t even think about alcohol and pick that up big time.

Also, go get professional help. Whether that’s AA, paying a counselor, doctor, someone. Don’t try to do this alone or there is a very real chance you will fail dramatically and end up losing everything you care for (wife, friends, family, job, etc)

Isn't there a drug out there that makes you violently ill if you drink alcohol when taking it?

Refocus your addiction to Adderall and you’ll have tons of energy.

Gotta get to your bottom bro.. It's different for every person. In the meantime go to a few AA meetings and just listen..

I try to take a break a year anywhere from a month to a couple months. After not drinking around 7-10 days it’s a lot easier to stay away.

Pickup a hobby or throw yourself into something you didn’t have time in the past. You will have hours back if you drink regularly.

Workout more. Your sleeping should improve a good bit as well. Timing depends on how frequent/heavy you are drinking now.

Went to rehab, wife threatened to leave me.

Also, it got to be a chore to drink. I was putting so much effort into obtaining the next drink that nothing else mattered. Slacking at work, slacking at home, always grumpy and tired except for the few hours I had the "perfect" buzz going on.

Most people drink like that because they are running from something, whether you realize it or not.

Plenty of outpatient rehab deals you can do

Divorce, custody battle, job loss, rehab, rehab, rehab, then ending with a liver transplant. I can officially say I'm finally done now. Don't be like me. That's all I can say. Learning the hard way and living to tell about it is vastly overrated.

You sound just like me except hangovers have never bothered me. I guess I've come to expect that it's just part of the game. I can drink till I pass out and get up the next morning and do it all over again.

Good luck quitting

You're already there man.

Step 1, throw away every bit of alcohol in the house.

Step 2, go see your doctor and show him your post.

Best of luck man.

Seek professional help. Seriously. Posting this on an anonymous message board is great and all, but you have deep-seeded issues that need help before you can just take someone's random advice on "how to quit drinking."

Good luck, man.

If alcohol is making everything that bad, the question should be why do you keep drinking?

Realization is key and it seems like you're there.

Attend some meetings, find some solace and most importantly, apologize to your wife for being a knucklehead.
