How did your provincial townie friends take it and do you still remain friends with most of them?

Imagine your friends getting upset with you for moving away. Kinda weird and selfish

I mean me and mine don’t chat much outside of a couple calls a year and when I’m down but that’s just because of life.

I moved out 14 years ago, but I keep in touch with the people I care to keep in touch with. I’m pretty good about that if not downright annoying about it.

I go on a hunt or to a football game with some of them from time to time. When you move out of town nobody gets mad or anything like that, but you naturally drift apart over time.

Who the hell cares what your friends think? You're an adult. Live your life.

The people in my hometown I grew up with fall into three camps. The first is those who are losers whose highlight of their life was high school. These people usually have made terrible life decisions, are on drugs/alcohol, and have no intention of doing anything to better themselves so they hang out at the same bar talking about their high school glory days, I try to avoid these people like the plague when I go home. The second group are productive citizens ,but have zero desire to change are go anywhere further than a state or away. These are usually good people and where most people in my family fall, but they just don't have the want to travel and discover and live in new places which is fine. The third type of person is people who are from my area, went all over the country/world, and either through some obligation or want to settle down brings them back to stay. There is a possibility one day I might fall in the third ,but I doubt it.

Why one Earth would somebody downvote that statement? I don't get some of the people on here sometimes.

I did it at about 27. Responses were mixed. Some couldnt believe I was leaving, some were envious it wasn't them. Over the years when I return I get together with most of them but there is 1 guy who hasn't really remained a friend. he's the guy who is butthurt that when I come back to town I don't spend all my time with him. Never calls me but when I call him complains that I never call him, forgetting that his phone will call me as well if he just dials the numbers!!!
