Fire Captain, soon to be certified flight instructor. Hope to retire from FD in about 3 years and chase a flying job somewhere. Like someone else said, 2 pensions and a debt free life.

Read it as "$20k." I figured this was the thread for me.

I'll see my way out now.

who here makes $200k+ in an engineering role that isn't involved in O&G

I know some civil engineers that make around that much.

I’m a network engineer and it’s not too far above where I’m at. I’ve had some offers to go to some places with higher bases that would put me at 200k+ but I really like my job, enjoy the people I work with and for, get a company car, and set my own schedule.

Making the jump to that salary would be getting into a publicly traded company, forced to meet numbers every quarter, and have to get into a bunch of DEI stuff. I’d also have to post on LinkedIn and other dumb rah rah company things.

Some guys I work with in some of those bigger companies are forced to put pride logos in their signatures and encouraged to add pronouns on their email and LinkedIn. I can assure you that the network/security engineering field is mostly devoid of gay, trans, and even women for the most part. It’s not like it’s a culture war I’d want to wage but it’s incredibly unnecessary for the field.

Who do you work for? I am in the same field and currently work for Cisco, but would be interested to move back to a smaller private company.

But if you want to stay in the south, you have to live in Charlotte, Nashville, or Atlanta if you're talking true IB (product/coverage group not PWM). ETA: or Texas if you're into O&G

Correct.

For LSU grads, Houston is 100% a viable option for O&G IB.

It’s also going to have a much higher than typical % of college grads given what the site is

How so? I’m willing to bet 90% of the people walking around Louisiana in purple and gold swag have never set foot in a college classroom.

Some of us that post here did graduate from the state university, live out of state in the wealthiest county in the state, took advantage of career opportunity and make well over $200K.

I could go make $250k or more right now if I wanted to, but that would require me to live in the DC area. frick that noise. You couldn't pay me enough to live in that festering shithole.

$200k…I can only imagine.

Hey, our PTO gave each of the teachers at my school a $50 Amazon Gift Card. So I got that going for me, which is nice.
