For the 2nd year in a row, the IRS has sent me an unexpected check.

Last year we apparently overpaid by $3800. That’s after dooing TurboTax AND a local CPA.

This year they sent $780.

I think our taxes are a little compicated due to paying fed tax on a nannie, but it feels like a guessing game at this point.

Anyone else get random Fed Reserve checks?

No, but I get random notices that I owe.

You need to get your taxes done by a professional. If the IRS has sent you over $4500 back of their own volition you can guarantee you left a lot more on the table.

Do you take advantage of a Dependent FSA?

We just received $9800 from them about two months ago. Thanks Trump.

That’s what I’m worried about, but we used a reputable CPA last year and his number was within $100 of TurboTax.

No...but my employer offers the opportunity.
Been considering it.

Little bit of a pain in the arse getting the money, but after the third time it was much easier.

Worth it IMHO.

That’s a whole lot of alabama gibberish just to say your poor enough to afford a full time nanny

I just got $15,000 back. But I don’t get a salary so I have to estimate my withholding percentage. I’m estimating wrong obviously. But it’s nice to have a spring windfall.

What did TurboTax get wrong; or what did you incorrectly enter into TT? What reasons did the IRS give for the refunds?

No idea, but I’m sure it’s my fault.

They sent me one for $1200 several years ago telling me I over payed. Two years after that they sent me a bill for $1200 telling me that I had not over payed and, in fact, they actually over payed me. The whole agency and code is a bloated mess.

Our tax laws are unnecessarily complex. It's ridiculous.

It costs about the same as daycare for 2 kids in my area.

The IRS is not bloated at all.

The code is bloated but the IRS does not write the laws.

I say this as someone who’s life is easier not really having to worry about the IRS because of them being underfunded and understaffed

Not so fast...... The IRS sees things different from their own rules from agent to agent sometimes. They sent me back extra money on one of my business returns and the CPA plainly showed what they thought and how it was wrong on their part.

Schedule H giving you a problem? Make certain you answer the limit questions correctly. Do you pay state unemployment?
