For years when i go to Baton Rouge, coming from St.Francesville does anyone know the name of that football field, right by the highway, you can the the capitol from it. Just curious if its a high school stadium or what. Never seen it used.

Memorial Stadium. It’s used for HS games. It’s actually been Catholic High’s home field for a few years now.

Opened in 1952. They used to flood it and hold water skiing events there back in the 60’s and 70’s.

I thought Catholic played at Olympia?
Anyway, the stadium is Memorial stadium, as others have said. It hosted a Bowl Game (the Rice Bowl) for a year or two. Also the used to flood it and would have boat/ski shows there.

Was used to put on a water skiing show way back when.

quote:
A flooded Memorial Stadium back in the summer of 1970. Local promotors, Gordon Ogden and Jerry Comeaux, had the stadium filled with 3.5 million gallons of water for a water ski show! A dam was constructed on the south end of the playing field out of pilings, marine plywood and polyetheline. The water held for all 4 of the shows over a three day period and was drained out slowly through storm drains on the last night.

Memorial Stadium. High schools still play there I think. My dads old and talks about going to games there.
ETA: didn't know they flooded it, that is awesome. Trying to compete with ULM's wake boarding ramps.
