I feel that. I have a friend who planned his bachelor party in Galveston the weekend of LSU vs Alabama, and is getting married the next weekend for LSU vs Ole Miss.

what kind of job do you have where it's tough to get off on a friday one month in advance?

Hahahahha
bullshite
My sis is in healthcare and gets 6 weeks of paid leave every year
You have known about this wedding for a good while. Sucks for you that you were too much of a tight arse with your time off and did not provide enough notice before scheduling cake out.

You and your weird friend/acquaintance need to get you priorities straight.
"A man had 50 yard line tickets for an LSU game.
As he sat down, he noticed that the seat next to him was empty.
He asked the man on the other side of the empty seat whether anyone was sitting there.
"No," the man replied, "The seat is empty."
"This is incredible," said the first man.
"Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the LSU game, the biggest sporting event in the state and not use it?"
The second man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This will be the first LSU game we haven't attended together since we got married in 1967."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?"
The man shook his head. "No, they're all at the funeral.""

He said he is in healthcare.
I will say in his defense....when I was a nurse working nights on the peds floor....our schedule was usually out 4-6 weeks in advance. Once schedule is out....only way you can get off is if you find someone to switch shifts with. Or keep your mouth shut and call in sick. But most hospitals have gone to attendance points system so you get dinged heavily if you call in sick. I can remember going to work sick and just wearing a mask all shift and taking motrin around the clock cause if I called in...I would have gotten enough points to warrant me being written up and then losing my tuition reimbursement(6k).
This is why I always would switch with another nurse when asked (if it didn't interfere with anything I had going on). That way when I needed to switch a shift...I could cash in those favors.

Football season weddings
I honestly think this is one of the more trashier occurrences that seems to surface every year. People complaining about missing footbbawwlll which happens every single year with essentially the same teams for an event that most likely is a one time occurrence. Who really cares that much about sports?

I agree, I absolutely love football and a huge Saints fan. I’m not gonna be mad or miss a friends or family’s wedding over it though. When it’s all said and done, it’s still a bunch of late teens early 20s year olds (OP referring to college game) running around a field and I’m 37. I’ll be ok if I miss a game

Big Tiger fan that fell for a Gump. we tried to predict the schedule while making save the dates. Seeing how LSU and Bama always share the bye week before their battle we chose the third of last year. Turns out that was announced as game day a week after we sent invites. Long story short. We made sure our venue had the game on every screen possible. and we had a blast.

I don't really see the issue with a month's notice? Most companies have PTO policies and I've never seen a policy that requires more than two weeks notice. Granted, I have never worked in healthcare like Nurse
Also - I presume you knew the date when you agreed to be in his wedding? You had the opportunity to say no but chose to take part so this isn't anyone's fault but yours.

I'm in a wedding for the Ole Miss game.
At least they suck balls and it's in Oxford.

The company I work for has a three week window in October-November where we have to schedule all our PTO for the following year

I understand that different industries can have different standards, but that is ridiculous.
How did they handle sick time or emergencies?

Think we get like 5-6 sick days a year. Emergencies we have to try to find someone to cover us. Its usually not too hard, because they’ll grant people overtime to fill in
