The comments are great, but the amount of people taken in by this foolishness is sad. There are a lot of really stupid people in this country.

This should be the rule.
We will recognize that person up to the date you wanted a name change.
At that point your grades will start over, similar to a student transferring from another school. If that harms you being Valedictorian then oh well.
If a person does well from that new date of using their new name and wins Valedictorian then ok.
If this hurts them being a valedictorian, oh well decisions come with consequences.
