The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said that LeRoy Stotelmyer was arrested on March 9 for Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer and Shoplifting.

Following this, law enforcement went on to speak with several toll bridge attendants who had previous encounters with Stotelmyer. They said he often would try to flash a badge to avoid paying a $2 bridge toll. He reportedly did this several times over the last few months and identifies himself as a U.S. Air Marshall.

“This guy clearly has not learned his lesson and has no respect for the law,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Two days after his release and he is already up to his old tricks. We know already that he thinks he can get out of shoplifting and paying tolls with his fake badge, I am happy we were able to get him back off the streets before something more serious occurs. He thinks he wants to be a cop, now he gets to see what it’s like to be an inmate.”

Went to high school with a guy who had some weird mental issue that made him think he was a cop. All the school authorities seemed to be under notice that he was not to be given any authority. Like, when he was a senior all the other JROTC cadets had shoulder boards and medals and shite but this dude was a fricking Corporal or something.
Dude is still kind of a wannabe cop / hanger-on; he has a menial job that puts him into contact with them. I guess they got his medications right enough that he's no longer indulging in tactical misadventures, though.

He identifies as a policeman. How can you criminalize who he is?

Never understood those types.

If they go medieval on him and lop off an arm or a leg or a branding of his face that'll end his impersonation gig.

He doesn't want to be an inmate, he wants to be a cop. Dumbass sheriff.

To be fair, the guy has the look down. He looks like a small town police detective.

Thought you were talking about a nut job I went to high school with in MS, at first. You can find out about him if you search about the two Long Beach cops killed back around ‘97-98 timeframe. Luckily it was only the two cops that got killed before he got smoked by an off duty in his boxers and duty boots.

Interesting, haven't heard this story. Mental illness...

You're describing my brother in law exactly. Discharge from Army (honorable officially but it was really dishonorable). Denied entry to police academy several times for mental/anger concerns. Works as a security guard and thinks he's FBI and CIA operative.

Good read. For some reason I thought it was an ak versus ar. He was not allowed to become a cop due to psych tests, and his dad was kicked off the force because he was bat shite cray too. He drove a little Mitsubishi car and had white strobes in it and would try to pull folks over when he was still in high school. It was only a matter of time before he did some really crazy stuff.
