FLOMATON, Ala. — A small earthquake has hit the Gulf Coast for the third time in a week. The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a magnitude 2.3 earthquake occurred Tuesday night near Flomaton, Alabama, near the state line with Florida. The town has about 1,400 residents. No damage was reported from the weak quake, which the Geological Survey says was too weak for most people to even feel. The agency says two other small earthquakes have occurred in the same area in the last week. A magnitude 3.1 earthquake happened Monday afternoon, and a magnitude 2.6 quake happened near the state line around Century, Florida, last week. Those quakes didn't cause any damage, either.

Don’t small earthquakes proceed bigger ones? Is it about to go down?

Both Alabama and Florida could break off and float out to sea. Net gain for the country.

True. friendly reminder, the earthquake scale, unlike the saffir-simpson us baws are used to, is more exponential not so much linear. As in, a mag 8.0 is (thanks wikipedia) 33 times more powerful than a mag 7.0.

a 2.3 might well have been a few deuce and a halfs jumping up and down to their club anthem at the florabama.

I spent 3 yrs in Alaska....a 4.0 would hit, someone would say "cool earthquake" and then we'd go back to our conversation

No fracking anywhere near there.

Geologically, there's a buried block faulted basin with Paleozoic sediments near there.

There's no hydraulic fracking/horizontal drilling in the Jay Field? Because this is located directly over the Jay Field.
