We live in the mountains. I want to buy my parents a condo on the Gulf side of Florida to spend a few months in the winter in. They are in their mid 70's and are not having any gold chain wearing yankees walking around their AO. I suspect that there will be some good purchasing opportunities directly. I don't know jack about Florida outside of the keys, and that isn't going to work for them. Where should I start?

Why?
What's your budget?
Do they want to be in a quite area or a place they can walk to bars/restaurants, etc?

You might want to consider the SC/GA coast.

Does your dad like baseball? He could have a lucrative second career as a Travel Ball World Series umpire.

Meh. I don't see that as a real issue along the panhandle of the gulf.

They have a place at the beach here. They are old and want to be warm while we are up here freezing like last winter. I talked them out of a house in Mexico 10 years ago and they are holding a grudge.

Really? They should be thanking their lucky stars that their heads didn't end up in an ice chest on the border.

"The good purchasing opportunities" are long gone! Presales on condos at Panama City are $500K. Lots in Mexico Bch, where houses once stood before Michael, are selling for about 90% of pre-storm prices(without the houses). They aren't making anymore beach front property. I think you missed your window for cheap housing.

However, I will sell you my condo at MB. I am finishing the final repairs this weekend. Waterfront view, 1 block from beach.
