No pro sports teams? What about the Toledo Mud Hens?

Atrocious winters. Some pretty neighborhoods though.

San Angelo, TX

Located in the middle of Texas (almost smack dab in the middle between El Paso and Dallas)

Actually about a third of the way to El Paso, and requires a substantial detour off I-20 to get there. But a nice little city, I've been there a couple of times.

And yet has a lower crime rate than all those cities. How is this even possible? I’ll hang up and listen.

Fairly large Muslim immigrant populations actually. St. Louis has one of the largest in the US.

I’ve never been to Toledo but I have a buddy who was born/raised in Toledo and graduated from the university. His mom and siblings still live there. He said Toledo was a dump and he’ll never move back.

I have some friends there who bought a 5 bedroom house for $300k. Has about a 1/2 acre of land, an office, a library room, and a bonus rec room. Plus a finished basement they turned into a home gym, a two-car garage, and an outdoor shed with full workstation.

But those winters....

The city that comes to mind for me is Birmingham. Never realized how large of a city it was until going there. Figured it was just the Baton Rouge of Alabama.

I wasn’t suggesting you move to Des Moines or Grand Rapids. Just noting that they are bigger areas than most people expect

In the Midwest, it’s no surprise Rockford is big. It’s also a shithole. It has a higher crime rate than Chicago. People in Chicago look down on people from Rockford due to the crime rate

The city population is smaller than BR. The metro is about 1 million or a little more so about 250k more.

Most people watch the Masters and think Augusta is something like Savannah or Charleston.

It's not. The rest of the town is more like Cleveland, a run down shithole.

Holy Toledo! Of course you're aware of Toledo, but did you realize just how large it is? Once a key train stop between NYC and Chicago, Toledo has grown to be the 71st largest city in the country. It is larger than Birmingham, AL and Baton Rouge, LA. While lacking professional sports teams, Toledo is known for...not much.

Population: 287,208
Colleges: University of Toledo, Davis College, and Owen Community College
Largest NEB Employer: Promedica Health Systems
Tidbit: Known for its glass manufacturing

No pro teams but they do have the Mud Hens and Walleyes though. They have a surprisingly nice Zoo too and about an hour from Cedar Point, 45 minutes from Put-In-Bay.

Birmingham gets overlooked. And I get it. Terrible Civil Rights history. No major draw from a pro sports team or vacation destination.

But the Birmingham metro is a great place to live and raise a family.

Did you know you have to drive through Iowa to get to the Airport in Omaha NE? I was royally confused for about 10 min

I just looked this up on Google Maps. It's like there's this one little neighborhood, in Omaha that just happens to be part of Iowa. What the frick is that?

I mean, you can see it is around this oxbow lake that was, I guess, part of Iowa at one point until the river changed course, but you'd think they would have ceded it to Nebraska at some point thereafter.
