Wolves aren't even really that big. Their ability to hunt comes from numbers and isolating the weakest of the prey.
Like dogs, they are all teeth and their claws don't do shite. That's where leopards and other big cats have a huge advantage. They have a mouth and 2 paws to worry about. And they can climb trees and see at night. That's why they can hunt chimps.
The chimp could literally rip the legs off of a wolf and beat them to death.

strength wise, it's not close.

the wolf has the edge in PSI of his clamp
quote:What are you basing that on?
the pitt bull has a huge advantage in his skills to clamp down and continue locking down

And here we have the mighty leopard getting killed by african wild dogs without injuring even one of them.
Why?
Because that's how dogs fight. They take on one at a time and tear it to shreds. You turn your back on one the other comes in to bite and tears at your muscles and tendons and opens your veins till you are worn out and they kill you and eat you.

I edited. Jaguars are twice the size of African Leopards

I was unaware of this!
I did just find vids of leopards mauling big game though. They are still super badass.

Jaguar bite force is on another planet too. Only crocs, gators, and hippos have them beat.
Posted on 5/8/17 at 3:48 pm to SabiDojo
What can beat a hippo one on one? A bull elephant?
Posted on 5/8/17 at 3:49 pm to Captain Rumbeard
Wolves. Not even close. Chimps won't do shite but throw shite. Literally.

That's the buffest chimp with the biggest nuts I ever saw.

How did this thread land on jaguars and hippos?
Posted on 5/8/17 at 3:53 pm to TigerCoon
Because someone, for whatever reason, brought up leopards because leopards hunt chimps. Then it turned into wolves could kill leopards so therefore wolves could kill chimps. Then someone posted a gif of a Jaguar as proof.
You know, typical O-T stuff.

To be fair, I knew it was a jaguar...I just thought they were closer in size to leopards
OT taught me something today

find the whole "omgaw wolf teamwork and intelligence" hilarious when chimps use tools and have mastered sign language
That's all great and all but chimps are not predatory. Their tool working is for foraging, not for weaponry. Wolves are predatory animals. Chimps are not.
Predatory beats non-predatory unless there is obscene size differences (elephant vs. wolf pack).

There's videos of them hunting down and eating monkeys. One of the more disturbing animal videos you will see.

That entire sentence makes absolutely no sense.

A chimps is not predatory. That is due to territoriality. I've seen it too. The sound they make is unsettling. However, those chimps were expanding their territory. Chimps do not live off of meat, they live off of bugs, plants, fruits, etc...
Posted on 5/8/17 at 4:07 pm to BugAC
Well, no matter how we classify them, it doesn't make any difference to the monkeys.
Posted on 5/8/17 at 4:11 pm to BugAC
Chimps eat termites. They use a twig or a blade of grass to get at them in their mounds. This impressive tool making ability is why some folks here think they can whip a pack of wolves. And they can communicate with each other via sign language for complicated formations and maneuvers.
