Planned ahead of time. Bought my wife a 4 runner when son was 13 with the intention of it being his first car. Worked out great. He is 16 now and has a good reliable vehicle.

Time for a automotive board?

I'm in.

Then again, the proliferation of other boards have turned the OT to shite.

Biggest issue with an automotive board is that it would turn into a GM vs Ford vs Mopar shitfest turning what could be a good topic into a hot mess.
You have already seen how tightly moderated other car forums have had to be because of the nonsense that was posted.

A friend of the family gave us a 04 (I think) Silverado with the 4.8. Very bad shape. My son and I fixed it.
1.Replaced headliner
2.replaced carpet
3.replaced brakes
4.pulled transmission and replaced rear main engine seal
5.bought a set of used factory aluminum wheels/tires
He learned a lot about the truck, drove the shite out of it and sold it for five thousand. Used that for a down payment on the car he has today. Bought a Camary for my daughter. she totaled that and we now have her in a Mazda.

I just looked at the autotrader for within 200 miles of my zip. The best option was a honda minivan with 230k miles.

You inspired me to do the same and I'm cracking up at the cars. No way any sane person would put their child in one of these.

Handed down my Volvo XC90 with 100k+ miles. Safe and sturdy and has only needed minor repairs.

Too many boards, too few posters on the boards.

More boards, more clicks, more ad revenue.

Car threads does bring out the vitriol, though.

true story: my boss is a billionaire with a B.

he drove a worn-out acura legend for YEARS and only recently decided to enjoy his money & get a couple of nice cars.

people who call others 'poors' for not having new & nice cars are the ones who are most likely the 'poors'.
