So the kid couldn't swim or what? Hit his head?

Did you grow up in S Louisiana surrounded by water? A child living in S La not learning to swim is fricking irresponsible parenting.

These neighborhood ponds in Ascension are deep as hell. There's a newish neighborhood on 42 in a big curve kinda near Big John's, and I swear the pond at the entrance is at least 40' deep. The pond is right at the entrance of the neighborhood right along the highway. If a car were to swerve off the road right there, you'd never find it again.

That's just one issue. The other is wildlife. We live in the swamp. There are gators and all kinds of creatures in these ponds.

The bottoms of these ponds are very soft with thick deep mud.

This is a good point. The bottom of the pond in my neighborhood is like a mix of glue and mud. I struggled to walk in it wearing waders.

possibly a key piece of understanding what took place I guess.

Was going to ponder that considering the amount of time that elapsed they probably already assumed the worst. Therefore, they wanted to carefully make sure they secure the canoe as evidence in case foul play becomes a factor

I doubt tweens in ascension are doing much murdering playing on a pond. Just a tragic accident and unable, for whatever reason, to make it to shore

Wife and I said the same exact thing when they dug that. It’s very deep, much deeper than I expected a retention pond to be and yes, if a car ever goes in there it’ll be difficult for anyone to ever know it.
