Apparently fruit is racist
quote:

Last Monday, 41-year-old Robert Pattison went to introduce himself to his fellow firefighters at Engine 55 at Joy and Southfield in Detroit. Second Battallion Chief Shawn McCarty calls it a tradition for firefighters. "It's not mandatory, it's voluntary," he said. "You come in bearing gifts. The usual gift is doughnuts but you are allowed to bring whatever you want to bring in." photo And Pattison, a probationary firefighter, decided to bring a watermelon wrapped in a pink ribbon.

Remember kids, you aren't allowed to like certain foods or bring gifts in fear of insulting the misplaced sensibilities of some overly sensitive pussies.

You'd think firefighters would be more immune to this PC idiocy.

I mean seriously...who doesn't like watermelon.

Also, George Washington Carver didn't invent peanut butter and the Irish invented fried chicken.

And the obligatory

Two things could've happened here.

1) He was actually making a joke in which, grow some thick skin to the other firefighters.

2) He was running late and forgot to pick something up beforehand and grabbed the first thing in the store.

I'm gonna go with number two but neither should be a fireable offense.

Nothing is racist about boneless jungle ham.

Watermelon is just straight up good.

Especially with a little salt. I may go get a watermelon today.

Why do certain people think they have this right to dicate what foods other people can enjoy?

Black people do not get to own watermelons or fried chickens. Let’s be clear about that, and do not own the rights to either as their own. Frying chickens goes to the Scots, and watermelons we’re grown in parts of Europe long before the new world was even discovered and then settled by Europeans.

It’s just food, and loved by everyone in the south of all races. I really wish mother frickers would grow up just a little and quit being such incredible pussies over silly shite like food we all love and enjoy.

Just to be clear, I don't think black people who find this racist are "owning" watermelon. But they are acknowledging that watermelon is often a symbol of racism associated with black people.

I seriously don’t give a flying frick. It’s just food. If someone brings a box of crackers to dinner to serve with soup I’m not going to get bent out of shape. They’re just crackers, and they go good with soup.

I think the bow is what’s making it racist.
