I'd bet the farm this guy is a volunteer firefighter

I don't like to stereotype, but yeah you are probably right. It seems like there is a certain type of person who becomes a volunteer firefighter. That doesn't mean everyone who becomes a volunteer firefighter is the same way, but many who do seem to have a certain sense of importance about them.

Don't get me wrong, they are volunteering to put themselves in danger, but its like they live for something bad to happen so they can be "in the know" when something happens.

And a lot of those types of people don't need to be carrying a gun. Just because they can pay a few hundred bucks and pass a day long remedial gun class doesn't make them safe.

This is so sad. The OP is the only person that has anything with this shite show of a thread about information pertaining to the actual event.
Stop trying so hard to be cool guys with your shitty humor and political/racist post.

I'm confused why anyone even hand a handgun pulled to where the trigger could accidentally be pulled in the first place

That's what I don't really understand, but then again I don't know enough about the situation to make any type of "accurate" assumption, but at least the guy didn't die.

What time does the firefighter riot and looting start?

Personally, I think there needs to be stricter gun laws (laws that are more about safety than anything), but no one wants to meet in the middle so its pointless to argue about it.

Like what? What did you have in mind?

How many concealed carry holders lead to incidents like this? Is there any indication that the fireman was carrying concealed? I don't know why he would be. I'm betting he was open carrying which doesn't require money or a class.

The North Louisiana guy would be arguing that Shreveport is worse than Baton Rouge.

And what do I do when someone breaks into my house with a gun they scooped up illegally?

What are the odds of that actually happening? And you being alert and quick enough to grab it and load it in time? There don't seem to be a rash of home invasions. Most robberies seem to be at stores or on the street. And I think I read a pretty interesting statistic where homes with guns were much more likely to have someone die by gun violence than those that don't. I'm not sure if that is due to accidental deaths--which are still unacceptable--or the likelihood that someone with a gun is more likely to engage--unprepared--in a gunfight and be killed.

Either way, I am certainly a supporter of the 2nd Amendment. But we have to be honest and smart about it. Chris, I think, made a good point. Liberals want to ban all "assault rifles," which will likely have little to no effect on curbing gun violence. On the other side, gun lovers want to be able to get guns out of a vending machine, holding on to the Charlton Heston motto of "You can have it when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands."

Both sides dig their feet in, stick their fingers in the ears, and refuse to listen to the other. What we need are adults to have an adult conversation without any agenda except making our citizens safer while protecting the integrity of the 2nd Amendment. I don't think stricter background checks are unreasonable. Nor is requiring significant training and testing before providing a license to own a firearm. I would imagine a ton of gun related deaths are due to incompetent gun wielders, who have no business carrying a gun. It's not an easy issue, and it won't have easy solutions. But grown ups who are not beholden to a certain lobby or constituency have to step up and put what's in America's best interests first, not their re-election's. Sometimes I think we'd be be better off with 1-term limits.

This is the problem with not "digging in." The gun control debate in this country has historically resulted in only one side "compromising." What has the left ever "given up" in a gun control compromise?

This cartoon illustrates what I'm talking about:

This statement here is so true. I am a volunteer but we have some that are just like that.

Multiple times have heard them talking about how we need a house to catch fire or this or that so they can use their gear.

I hope I never have to use my gear, because when I have to gear up it usually means someone is losing something important to them. Whether it be property or worse ever, a loved one.

Gun rights have been limited multiple times both on the federal and state levels, but you knew that.

Sorry I'm not sorry that bans on campuses or bars constitute rights. They are limits.

And they are nothing compared to the rights we still maintain.

I said that gun rights have been limited. You really popped in here to get into a semantics argument over the difference between taken away and limited?
