He's stayed silent on these topics for 30+ years, probably not the best guy to throw out there as who athletes should be like, unless you want them to remain silent, then he's perfect for that as a role model.

$1,000,000 for him is like $10 for us.

I was actually kind of surprised, typically he stays away from this stuff. Its clear hes not a very political person at all.

But much respect for him for this move.

Actually i do. Most athletes and entertainers are not very smart or well rounded. Most have been pampered from a young age.

Yes please. They're paid to play a sport, not to give their opinions on world matters.

Being right about one thing is not deserving of respect. It's funny how easily we forget how big of a piece of shite Michael Jordan really is.

No joke, leave that kind of stuff up to the experts on online forums.

Everyone knocks the opinions of athletes and entertainers until they go their way. Athletes and entertainers should keep their mouth shut, and when they decide to have an opinion, it should be derided, unless of course they're Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwarzenegger, or Charles Barkley, in which case they're an expert and a voice of reason.

The vast majority will listen to a celebrity long before a politician, or LEO, etc.

Spinning MJ's statements as a negative is simply ignorant.. It doesn't matter if he's said anything in the past or not.

Police officers buy Jordan's as well. Taken from the 80's when he said Republicans buy Jordan's too.

And most of them are dumb as a fricking rock. You do have some that are intelligent and have valid opinions, MJ being one of those people. However, and unfortunately, its usually the intelligent ones that keep quiet because of just that. They are smart enough to know that that's not their arena and it's sometimes best to not interject an opinion that will be followed blindly by fans instead of letting them use their own brains to make their opinions.

The stupid ones however are just smart enough to know that their fans WILL follow blindly, but too stupid to realize that they are hurting more than they are helping because the people ARENT forming their own opinions.

It's a catch 22 for guys like Jordan but sometimes it gets to a point, like he said, where they cant stay quiet anymore and feel like something needs to be said by someone that a lot of people might listen to to try to decelerate the situation and help efforts to calm the damn world back down from pure madness.

Do people on online forums have a stage where millions of people see them and worship them?

You think LeBron James doesn't have sway with young people who idolize him?

I don't care if I agree with them or not, when it comes to highly controversial issues, celebrities and athletes mostly should keep their mouth shut. Their opinion holds no more weight than you or me, the difference is they have a platform where millions of people hear them.

So because he was overly competitive on the court and talked more shite than an elephants arse to other players then he is a piece of shite? I have read many times, from people close to him, in interviews and such that he quite often does a LOT of behind the scenes work for good causes. He isnt an attention hog (which is odd given how much of a ball hog he was ) and doest need your approval or praise to do the things he wants to do.

Being a shite talking asshat onthe basketball court does no translate into being a piece of shite of a person. It simply means he enjoyed the competitiveness of the game and enjoyed getting into players heads to make them play poorly by frustrating them. Its cerebral basketball. Beat your opponent in their head first and beating them on the court has already happened.

You don't want them to speak up but literally give the reasons why those that want to should 100% speak up.

Interesting play there.
