That’s a good question. I couldn’t see one. The cab was busted up pretty badly. You had to crawl under the wreackage to get to the driver. The only light was the fire and iphones.

I was thinking about helping other people. If you are pinned and the car is on fire, you are done for. That was true for one of the cars. It was engulfed from the moment of the crash.

Former fire extinguisher technician here. You want a ABC powder extinguisher. CO2 are not rated for class A fires (ordinary combustibles) and are very large and bulky. I don’t even they make vehicle brackets for CO2s. If you want something specific to car fires, look at getting a 10 or 20 pound Purple K extinguisher. It contains powder specific to class b (liquids), has a higher flow rate and allows you to stand further back while spraying. NASCAR uses purple k at most race tracks.
And be sure you get the appropriate vehicle bracket. If the extinguisher is not attached properly it can become a projectile if you get into a wreck. I’ve seen them go through windshields before.

I had a friend welding on his car in my shop. He ruptured the still pressurize fuel line and burning gas sprayed everywhere. After screaming FUUUUUUUUUUU...K, I fortunately came to my senses and found the fire extinguisher, one of those small powder types. Pretty anti-climatic... fire went out instantly, but my entire shop was covered in powder.

Thanks for the post Judge. The guy in the white truck was a buddy of mine. Got a call at 6:00 from a friend telling me about the accident. Your post help fill in some blanks. The only way they identified him was by the license plate on his truck. Thanks for stopping and trying to help. That sounds horrific.

Go to a professionally judged car show. They require participants to have a fire extinguisher. Talk to the owners of said cars, and get their recommendations on extinguishers and mounts as well as mounting locations.

Thanks for doing what you could. The way I understand it, there wasn’t much to do. I just pray he went instantly and didn’t suffer through the fire. He was a great guy and will be sorely missed.

We have to travel I49 tomorrow. Accidents can happen anytime but his scares the shite out of me. I wonder what caused the accident? So two people died?
