Festus was good but I liked Gunsmoke better when Chester was the Deputy.
I liked Dennis Weaver, but his character, Chester, was about as useless a deputy as tits on a bull. He didn't walk around strapped with a gun, he had that bad limp with a stiff leg, didn't fight worth shite and generally avoided any physical violence when it came to arresting people.

There were 9 paint horses that Lil Joe rode, all named Cochise. The original Cochise was found brutally murdered. He sometimes rode different horses in the same episode. I believe Cochise #6 was the one he used when they were filming an episode where Joe would be racing a good ways as he was considered the fastest.
Adam’s horse was named Sport. Adam hated to ride so they often had a woman stunt rider take his place.

He was Christmas parade Marshall in Monroe one time and I was able to get an autographed photo.

I wonder if Gunsmoke inspired the line "wait a minute, Chester" in The Weight.

Matt's horse was called Buck on Gunsmoke. Greene bought the horse after Bonanza ended.
